FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with a stray shower, mainly early. High: 74
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Low: 63
FORECAST SUMMARY
Thursday's weather was quite different compared to Wednesday as a cold front that dropped in last night swept all of the heat out of the region. Those widespread 90s for highs Wednesday were replaced with a lot of 70s on Thursday with mostly cloudy skies and a cooler easterly onshore wind flow. The aforementioned frontal boundary however was positioned across southern parts of the viewing area, and for several south of the Lehigh Valley, we were able to break out into a bit more sunshine and hence see slightly warmer afternoon highs in the 80s. A weak disturbance riding along our front tonight may bring a few showers and possibly even a thunderstorm later on, however no severe weather is anticipated. That little disturbance likely lingers into Friday morning keeping a slight chance for a shower in the forecast before things just end up remaining mostly cloudy for much of the rest of the day. It will be quite cool again Friday as we retain our easterly onshore wind flow. Things will warm up a little for Saturday, and turn more humid, as a southerly wind flow re-establishes itself in advance of a cold front coming in from our west. This front will deliver our next round of some showers and storms late Saturday and Saturday night. Once that front passes, things look brighter and drier through Sunday and Labor Day Monday to wrap up the holiday weekend. Some very sunny, dry, and refreshing weather looks like it will take hold moving through a good portion of next week.
DETAILED FORECAST
TONIGHT AND FRIDAY
A few showers and possibly even a thunderstorm are expected to cross the region later tonight as a weak disturbance slides moves through from west to east. Stubborn clouds and an easterly onshore wind flow also remain, so expect a mostly cloudy night otherwise with low temperatures in the low to mid 60s. No real severe weather is expected tonight despite the chance for some thunder and lightning. This little disturbance sliding through tonight will still be around to at least start Friday keeping a slight chance for a shower around, mainly in the morning. Expect mostly cloudy skies otherwise through much of Friday as we retain that cooler easterly onshore wind flow. Highs may struggle to get any warmer than the mid 70s Friday. Fortunately, the weather looks good for high school football games in the evening...just basically mostly cloudy, but dry and pleasant.
SATURDAY
Our next cold front approaches Saturday and delivers our next chance of rain and storms. This activity though likely holds off until late afternoon into the evening. So expect at least a good chunk of Saturday to be dry, just continued mostly cloudy skies. Having said that, with a southerly wind flow developing in advance of the approaching cold front, we expect humidity to climb back to sticky levels, and afternoon highs to get a little warmer back to around 80 degrees. As showers and storms approach from our west late in the day into the evening, we'll need to watch for the potential of a couple gusty cells with strong winds and torrential downpours. No organized severe weather is expected at this time.
SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
Sunday and Labor Day Monday look to be the drier days of the three-day holiday weekend and as that front keeps moving and doesn't get stuck, the rest of the holiday weekend looks good! As of now there may be lingering clouds and a leftover shower Sunday morning. By the afternoon, the clouds should break for more sunshine and the bright skies will carry into Labor Day Monday. Highs Sunday should continue to get a little warmer reaching the mid 80s. The day probably starts humid, but we expect humidity to drop late in the day as a strong area of high pressure starts to build back in from eastern Canada. That strong high will establish a northerly wind flow that will drive in some cooler air, but also still pleasant and refreshing. By Labor Day Monday, we expect breezes to pick up gusting to around 20 miles-per-hour, however we should have an abundance of sunshine along with high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Tuesday should continue to feature lots of sunshine with lighter winds this time and highs in the mid 70s.
