  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting again Thursday

    Rotowire

Rogers is not in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Rogers will sit for the second straight game, perhaps getting an extended breather after collecting just three hits across his last 29 at-bats. Carson Kelly is behind the dish and will hit ninth.

  • Tigers' Mark Canha: Sitting Thursday

    Rotowire

Canha is absent from Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Canha had started Detroit's last 22 games but hit only .211 in that span. He had a 15.9 percent strikeout rate in that span -- lessening the reason for concern -- though he'll still get a day of rest. Gio Urshela is sliding to first base, Matt Vierling to third, and Adkil Baddoo enters the lineup in left field.

  • Tigers' Keider Montero: Sent back to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Tigers optioned Montero to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Montero was recalled from the minors to serve as a bulk reliever for Wednesday's game, during which he allowed five earned runs in just 4.1 innings. He'll now head back to Toledo in order to free up a roster spot for Alex Faedo (hip), who returned from the IL on Thursday.

  • Tigers' Alex Faedo: Returns from injured list

    Rotowire

The Tigers reinstated Faedo (hip) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Faedo made three rehab appearances at Triple-A Toledo, during which he gave up one run over three innings while striking out four batters and walking four. He owns a 3.38 ERA and 1.18 WHIP through 34.2 frames in the majors, and he'll slide back into a middle relief role now that he's been cleared to rejoin the Tigers' bullpen. Keider Montero was optioned to Toledo in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Cleared for baseball activities

    Rotowire

Jung (wrist) has been cleared for baseball activities following a visit with a hand specialist Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Jung was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Toledo last week with right wrist soreness, an injury which had been nagging at him since May. He's on the comeback trail, though, as he'll report to Single-A Lakeland to begin a rehab assignment before eventually making his way back up to Toledo. Jung, 23, has slashed .270/.390/.500 with 11 home runs over 64 games this season in his first taste of Triple-A ball.

  • With trade talk swirling, Tigers' Jack Flaherty opposes Angels

  • Tigers' Matt Vierling: Slugs 10th homer

    Rotowire

Vierling went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a 6-2 loss to the Phillies on Wednesday.

Vierling took Spencer Turnbull deep in the second pitch of the game for his second leadoff blast this season. Vierling now has 10 home runs through 72 games, which matches his career high from last season in 134 games. The 27-year-old has been hitting leadoff nearly every day for almost a month now and carries a .254/.288/.449 line for the season.

  • Tigers' Easton Lucas: Sent back to Triple-A

    Rotowire

The Tigers optioned Lucas to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Lucas' stay with the big club lasted just one day, and he went unused out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies. He'll be replaced on the 26-man active roster by right-hander Keider Montero, who was called up from Toledo to serve as a bulk reliever in Wednesday's series finale versus Philadelphia.

  • Tigers' Keider Montero: Called up, working in bulk relief

    Rotowire

The Tigers recalled Montero from Tripe-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com, Montero is slated to serve as a bulk reliever for the Tigers in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, likely entering the game in the second or third inning once opening pitcher Tyler Holton exits the contest. Montero's lone prior big-league appearance came as a starter back on May 29, when he gave up four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.1 innings in a loss to the Pirates. Montero owns a 5.03 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 13 starts with Toledo this season.

  • Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Sitting against righty Wednesday

    Rotowire

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

After he was on the bench for Tuesday's 4-1 win while southpaw Ranger Suarez took the hill for the Phillies, the lefty-hitting McKinstry will remain out of the lineup against Philadelphia right-hander Spencer Turnbull in the series finale. The Tigers may not be adhering to a strict platoon at shortstop between McKinstry and the righty-hitting Ryan Kreidler, as McKinstry has now sat in three of Detroit's last five matchups with righties.

  • Tigers' Gio Urshela: Resting for day game

    Rotowire

Urshela is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

He'll take a seat for the day game after a night game, paving the way for Matt Vierling to pick up a start at third base. Urshela had been included in the Detroit lineup in each of the last nine games, going just 4-for-34 at the plate to bring his batting average down to .253 for the season.

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Resting Wednesday

    Rotowire

Rogers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Rogers had started behind the plate in three of Detroit's last four games while going 3-for-10 with a walk and two runs. He'll get a breather for the day game Wednesday while Carson Kelly draws the start at catcher.

  • Tigers' Tyler Holton: Serving as opener Wednesday

    Rotowire

Holton will serve as the Tigers' opening pitcher in Wednesday's game versus the Phillies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

With left-handed sluggers Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper in the top three of the batting order, the Phillies are targets for southpaw openers. Holton will be followed by Keider Montero, who will be called up from Triple-A Toledo and will be deployed as a bulk reliever.

  • Spencer Turnbull set to face ex-team as Phils take on Tigers

    Stats

  • Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Leads offense in win

    Rotowire

Ibanez went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.

Ibanez continued a strong June, as he's now batting .314 this month with six RBI and six runs scored across 15 games. The utility player is batting a solid .284 overall, and while he's not providing a ton of power, he has been a solid bat for the Tigers. Ibanez's biggest question moving forward is playing time, though Detroit figures to find creative ways to get him into the lineup even if he's not locked into a regular starting role.

  • Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Swipes two bases Tuesday

    Rotowire

Kreidler went 2-for-2 with a walk, a run and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Phillies.

Kreidler stole the first two bases of his MLB career in the seventh inning. The 26-year-old has mostly been a bench player in the majors, so while Tuesday's effort was promising, it looks to be an outlier. Zach McKinstry should get most of the playing time at shortstop in the near future with Javier Baez (back) still on the injured list, pushing Kreidler to a reserve role most days.
