The Royal Palace of Olite is a medieval fortress complex with towers, battlements, courtyards, and gardens. It has a rich history dating back to the 15th century when it began to deteriorate after Navarre was invaded. The palace was intentionally burned during the Peninsular War in 1813 but has since been restored to its original grandeur. Today, it stands as a major tourist attraction in the quiet town of Olite.

700+ year old castle expertly restored. Frankly this is a castle worth exploring with its winding staircases leading to multiple chambers and turrets.Set aside 3 hours for proper exploration in the castle. The hanging gardens is gorgeous but the King's Gallery is probably one of the most picturesque site with the slender tall Gothic arches. It's 5 euros per entry. The Santa Maria church is outside from the castle entry point but worth going round to visit too - just for the little Gothic courtyard at the entrance.

Julie P — Google review

Paid 3,50Eur to enter. Can easily spent 1.5 hours exploring around and climb stairs to all the towers. Great view from the towers.

Raymond N — Google review

Beautiful castle, had an incredible atmosphere at nighttime. While I was there they were shooting an American TV series in it so I couldn't visit it inside unfortunately. Clearly the best thing in the small town of Olite. Worth the trip.

Giovanni B — Google review

Fantastic castle with a very fair priced entrance. The views are absolutely stunning. Parking was easy and free of charge.

David T — Google review

Huge castle in a little town. Expected to sprend there 20 min top, ended up climbing up all the stairs to numerous towers and left the castle after 2 hours!NO DINNER BREAK - that was a pleasant surprise for a change. Reasonable ticket prices.

Katarzyna N — Google review

Amazing building, great price. Staff speak English if you're struggling with your Spanish, and staff are also very friendly.

Abi B — Google review

The best restored castle we have ever visited. It was really fun climbing the towers and enjoying the wonderful views of the surrounding area.

Janette S — Google review

Awesome Palace. Really worth visiting as it wasn’t built for strategic reasons but to be for fit for a King and his Queen. We also paid for an audio guide and this was worth it, you could share 1 between two or more people so save cost. There are a lot of rooms and towers to explore we spent an hour wandering through you could easily spend several hours here. The Palace has been rebuilt when you see the old photos they have done a marvellous job, and the audio gives you insights on how it use to look on the inside. We were in a motorhome and used the parking 5 minutes away.

Kiwisflythecoop N — Google review

So beautiful and entertaining. The entrance is only €3 for adults and free for children. We could access all the towers. Due to covid, the tickets are sold for a particular time to control the number of people inside. There are many bars, restaurants, and souvenirs shops inside the old city/castle.

Natalia K — Google review

Olite is quite simply magnificent and its crowning glory is the Palace. If you are within driving distance do not miss it. Apart from the Palace the town itself is full of interesting buildings and lovely nooks and crannies where little details on doors, walls, rejas and buildings convey a sense of an ancient culture and a splendid history. There is simply nothing in the UK to compare to Olite. And is is just one of hundreds of such glories in Spain.

Duncan P — Google review

One of the must-see historical places everyone should visit. The palace is outstanding and carrying on a lot from its past. You can see chambers for the King and the Queen of Olite and their special gardens.

Behzad N — Google review

Excellent value at 2.5euro per oldie, but be aware there are a lot of spiral staircases if you want to go up the many towers.

David M — Google review

Beautiful Medieval Castle. Lovely tour around. Fabulous views from the towers. Lots of steps up so you need to be a little bit fit...

Chris H — Google review

We saw this place in the distance on the way down to the Costas...we stopped on way back and visited the castle...so many towers to explore, so many views from the top, so many steps...but so worth it..and the town with its tiny streets..it's a good location to stop.

Bev B — Google review

It was my first visit in Navarra area. The palce is located in quiet town Olite, Historical place great architecture, a lot of high towers, smooth wals wille take you to the oldest centuries. Yo can fill it. The most unexpected surprise for was that Palace is Hotel slash museum place. You can sleep at those "walls".

Piotr K — Google review

Very beautiful castle. Big parking and easy to find. Loads of parking space even if you have a large motorhome…

Vita H — Google review

Beautiful castle and old town with medieval narrow streets and characterful buildings. A must do place if in the area just for a stroll and absorb the atmosphere

Keith S — Google review

The Royal Palace of Olite is a fairytale palace that was ordered to be built by Charles III of Navarre and Eleanor of Castille, Queen of Navarre in 1402. If you think it has a Frenchy feel to it you'd be completely right as Charles III of Navarre was of French descent and was born in Antes. It is definitely the highlight of Olite and well worth a stop.

Be V — Google review

Beautiful castle. I've been here many times already, but it always amazes me. It is a very peaceful place to admire the amazing places that Navarra has to offer.

Jose V — Google review

Well worth a visit if you are in the area! It’s one of those cool places you had no idea existed!

The Pamplona Catedral Hotel is a sleek and modern hotel in converted 19th century convent. It offers a restaurant and trendy bar, perched atop the edge of the old town where the famous Camino de Santiago leaves the city.

The best. Beautiful. Excellent bath to soak in. Centrally located in the city, near sightseeing area. Beds were perfect. Super clean. Friendly staff.

Lorne H — Google review

The hotel is located in the middle of the old town and garage parking is available. The hotel is clean and staffing was very friendly. The rooms were a bid dark. Some improvement could be done to give it a brighter and friendlier touch. Also a coffee machine and a bottle of water in the room would have been nice.

Goodyear — Google review

Booked this fairly last minute for a weekend trip to Pamplona and had a great stay. The rooms aren't huge, but are very well appointed, comfortable, quiet, and have large bathrooms. Check-in was 2pm and check-out was noon, both of which were super helpful. The breakfast spread was one of the nicer I've had at any hotel, as was the space to dine. All the staff we engaged with throughout were very nice and helpful. Overall a really nice stay, especially for the price (granted, we were there a week after running of the bulls and everything seemed quiet, so our pricing may have benefited from that)

Brad B — Google review

This hotel is close to town, and walking distance to everything. The view from our room was incredible, and the windows opening was a plus. The curtains served their purpose (thankfully as there is a beautiful wall of windows. The hotel has been somewhat updated, with a few original pieces remaining. Bring your USB chargers as they’re not in the wall. The staff were incredibly kind.

Clancy S — Google review

So noisy - there's a school nearby. No air conditioning when we were there - not sure if it's only available in summer season. To take a nap had to choose from hot or noisy! Nice small rooms, though! They have a nice rooftop bar, although just checked out the views!

Boni S — Google review

Seems rather empty and the staff was anxious to take great care of us. Beds wonderful, view nice, room very clean, shampoo, bath gel, hand soap nice quality in largish refillable bottles. Elevators confusing but fine. Our fridge didn't work & they brought another. Interesting that on the street, recycling is everywhere, but in hotel, not possible. Big fluffy towels. Location was close to many things but on edge of old Town so was quiet.

Joyce O — Google review

We had a great stay for 3 nights last week. A beautiful hotel and fabulous location. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The only negative I have is that on our last night there was fighting and banging doors right outside our room door until 2 am. We didn’t want to get involved but did mention it at check out. I think it was lost in translation as the staff member thought we were talking about in the street as they told us that it’s usually a quiet area but unfortunately there’s nothing they could do about it. However I would still happily return to this hotel in the future and would 100% recommend.

Laura K — Google review

Staff, room, location … fantastic spot!Very professional and nice staff! We even decided to stay one more night! Will be back indeed!

Super friendly night staff. Lovely dinner in the restaurant. Room was a good size and was perfectly clean. Bed was v comfortable. Nice breakfast. Super friendly say staff. Will return.

Great hotel close to all the activities of old Pamplona. Staff was very helpful in pointing out good places to get Pintxos.

Lenny C — Google review

Great hotel. Cant fault the staff in anyway.Parking is great as they have valet parking and produces the car every morning before I went to work. The quality of the restaurant's food is impeccable. The room was the perfect size for me and my partner considering I was at work all day and she was visiting the tourist sites.

Jamie R — Google review

One of the best hotels I’ve ever been in. The design of the rooms, lobby and restaurant is stunning. Extremely friendly staff, showed us the best route through the city and answered all our questions. Breakfast was delicious and varied and the restaurant is excellent. Location is also really good, amazing views. It’s right next to the archives and the beautiful city wall. It was a flawless stay.

Илона А — Google review

Perfect location, exceptional service, breakfast amazing and brilliantly managed. Edgar was so accommodating and polite. Can't fault it at all. All the staff were great fun and very professional.

Helen A — Google review

The room has been very small for a 4 star hotel. But it has been clean and the bath was really nice. The staff has been very friendly and helpful.

Christian E — Google review

I absolutely loved our two night stay here. The hotel was beautiful and serene, while being just steps from the bustling nightlife of pamplona, and the ancient high city walls lined by park. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assure that every guests needs are accomodated. I am very grateful to one "standout", especially. A handsome young man named Alejandro made our weekend complete. I wont list the ways that he helped us, but rest assured that you are in good hands, when Alejandro is taking care of you!

KG C — Google review

A dog friendly hotel, near a dog park and lots of walk areas. The people are very helpful, they have lots of ideas to share and you pick what seems more appealing. Good sized room (suite) and I liked the entrance area with multiple areas. They park your car so less issues dealing with parking. Tried the terrace restaurant and would go back. Ask the receptionist about the hours as they are open Sundays too. Highly recommended

Set A — Google review

The lobby was cold and a bit deteriorated. The rooms are very dark and our hallway had a door in between that made it very cold. I inquire if they were able to give me any compliments after listening the receptionist offer an upgrade to another guest. She stated she can’t and she didn’t want to. I think this very bad customer service.

Mercedes G — Google review

A very nice hotel. Close to restaurants and bars. Very close to the Cathedral. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Ed C — Google review

Stayed in this hotel two nights ago and booked via their website directly. The hotel is not a 4* as it does not have the amenities ( no kettle, Tv is tiny, cloakroom too small, no extra pillows or blankets, safe not working )It would appear that the website was not functioned properly and the booking was done on the wrong day. Upon arrival the receptionist informed me that the booking was for the day before and that rooms were available for tonight. We kindly asked if we could have a refund for the room as we and they didn’t really know whose mistake it was.The manager refused to refund the room booked, refused to refund the breakfast, refused to refund the parking, refund to refund the pet fee. Very unfriendly place I would avoid and not recommend

William P — Google review

Hotel is at a great location with views if you get one of the good rooms, rooms are backdated, old ac and mixers and not the cleanest room I have stayed, found hairs on the floor and bed, not comfy beds and noisy corridor, food is average and expensive

Pambis D — Google review

Good location and good service, quiet room. Wonder why there was no kettle and tea/coffee in the room though.

Seiichi K — Google review

Perfect location, right in the centre of the action for San Fermin festival. Rooms okay for the price, nothing special.

Monastery

Sights & Landmarks

Points of Interest & Landmarks

Located in the province of Huesca, Spain, the Monasterio Nuevo de San Juan de la Peña is a monastery complex that dates back to the 10th and 17th centuries. This area holds significant cultural heritage with examples of Romanesque art and architectural treasures found in nearby towns. It is also part of the Way of Saint James pilgrims' route designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The origins of the monastery date back to the darkest early Middle Ages (10th century) when the craggy mountains served as a safe refuge for the Christian communities beset by the Moors. Covered by one of these enormous rocks, known as the “Monte Pano”, the first building was erected, to which further additions were made over the centuries. The exterior cloister is a gem of Aragonese Romanesque. After the original building was destroyed at the end of the 10th century, Sancho Mayor of Navarra refounded the monastery during the first third of the 11th century. So began its era of splendour, as the first Aragonese kings endowed it with numerous properties, power and influence. In the interior the following stand out: the pre-romanesque church, the 12th century paintings of San Cosme and San Damian, the so-called Noblemens’ Pantheon, the upper church which was consecrated in 1094 and the Gothic chapel of San Victorian. Other buildings constructed in later centuries also stand out, such as the Royal Pantheon, in Neoclassic style, erected in the last third of the 18th century.

Edward — Google review

We decided to take a slight detour to see this Monastery and boy it didn't disappoint!Increadible views as we drove up, had to stop a couple of times to take it in.We had a lovely warm and clear day so got some nice pictures with the drone as well.We had a nice gentle walk round, lots of things to look at and read. Couldn't help but feel that some of the site has lost its authenticity due to the rather significant restoration and preservative measures that have been done since its renovation. Still highly recommend though.

Jon T — Google review

It amazes me how some people complain and give it a low rate because the road where the old monastery is, is dangerous, because it is in the mountain, because you have to get the tickets in the new monastery, and things like that. I do understand those who complain because the information in the new monastery is in Spanish. I didn't even notice, as I am Spanish and long ago made the effort to learn a bit of English for when I travel. I give it five stars because both monasteries are very interesting, the guide we had was very knowledgeable and communicated well. Go with time, so you can really enjoy both visits. We were on bycicles crossing Spain, and they kept the bikes for us while we saw both monasteries.

Fili V — Google review

So glad we went the drive up is incredible the views are just breathtaking. The new monastery looks very it of place but that's only because you pass the outside of the old first. Both are incredible buildings with such history attached to them. We purchased the book and took the audio guide round which made the experience better.

Danielle T — Google review

Not good at all. The pictures you see carved in the mountain is separate from the monastery three miles away in an uncomfortable location. The monastery itself is isolated and the road is dangerous and on the mountain.

Dario M — Google review

Made an unplanned stop here on a road trip and we were glad we did! The audioguide was very complete and translated the majority of the information panels in the new monastery. The drive up is also very scenic - well worth a visit!

Scott F — Google review

One could not have thought that in the middle of the most beautiful scenery one could find this wonderful and unusual museum. A burnt monastery surrounded by history, rescued in the most amazing way. A visit well worth the trip.

G R — Google review

Buy a ticket at the more modern monestary before driving further down to the older site as they don't sell them there. It is well worth a visit! Gorgeous views if you continue your journey down the mountain

Yvette B — Google review

This exquisite monastic building, where the grail was once supposed to be kept, (just copy on display now(see photo)) is cut into the rock on the side of a mountain. You can hike the twenty kilometres up from Jaca ( but bring lots of water in the summer as it's hot and humid) and its well worth the effort. Exterior has immaculate brickwork and windows while the inner church has an atmospheric apse and nave.

Stuart M — Google review

Beindruckend, Kloster aus dem 11. Bis 17. Jahrhundert unter Felsüberhängen gebaut.Parken 1,5 km entfernt beim "neuen" Kloster, 12 € Eintritt bezahlen und mit einem Shuttlebus vor das alte Kloster fahren.(Translated by Google)Impressive, monastery from the 11th to 17th centuries built under rock overhangs.Park 1.5 km away at the "new" monastery, pay an entrance fee of €12 and take a shuttle bus to the old monastery.

Der Z — Google review

Beautiful and really special. You can explore and discover how the monks used to live by walking over the remains of the monastery. White sculptures visually describe monastic life.

Silvia S — Google review

Cashing in on a natural wonder! A 30 minute drive from Jaca - a wasted journey. You have to pay to even see the outside! They don't let you park and walk up to see the wonder of the boulder over the monastery. They make you drive all the way up to the new monastery and pay for entry and a shuttle bus to go back down to see it. And at €12 it's not worth it for us! Very disappointing! Tried to take photos so you can see it but sadly they didn't come out well.

Beach

Outdoor Activities

La Concha beach is a sandy and shell-shaped beach located in the Bay of La Concha in San Sebastian, Spain. It is one of the most popular beaches in the city and features restaurants and more. The beach stretches over a kilometer and a half from Miramar Palace down to the town hall close to Old Town (Parte Vieja).

Beautiful beach with nice clear water. Perfect escape for a quick swim. Be aware Atlantic Ocean is quite cold 😅😅. Really busy during sunny days.

Ioannis C — Google review

La Concha is my one of my favorite beaches in the world. Id even go as far as saying its 10 times better then any beach in my hometown state of California. Clean white sand, plenty of space, and clear warm water. Perfect place for a couple days of relaxation and contemplation. Facilities include:*showers and footwash stations*benches and rentable chairs/umbrellas*bars and restaurants*life guards*bathroomsAnything not listen is within a block away. There were no pushy hustlers or obnoxious guests our entire stay at the beach. We absolutely look forward to returning.

Jay M — Google review

Wish we spent more time!Clean beach and surroundings despite amount of people.

Nancy D — Google review

It is a very big beach. Sadly we came on a rainy day so we couldn’t swim but on a sunny day this would be a very good place to relax. Would recommend going on late July or early August when the weather is better.

Diego D — Google review

Perfect beach for walking, riding bikes, taking a walk for your dog, swimming and so on. Very beautiful both daytime and nighttime.

Anna — Google review

Mesmerizing beach to sunbath, recharge your batteries and taking a cold swim.At the beginning nearer to the city it's more crowded to the end less, but the sand is also more rough there.

Michail K — Google review

Upon arriving in San Sebastián, we went to this spot first.Very lovely beach with sparkling blue water. A huge marina and many street vendors.Cool area to walk around.

Robin M — Google review

San Sebastian has beautiful, soft beaches in an idyllic setting. They've never been too crowded for me and we've been in June and September (I imagine it's probably overcrowded in August).Worth considering that it is the ocean water, so it does stay colder longer into the season.

Drew P — Google review

Very large and wide city beach. For surfing the spot is rather unsuitable because the waves outside must be very large, so that in the protected bay surfable waves arrive.

Pascal M — Google review

Iconic beach in the heart of the city. It was packed but it didn't feel like we were on top of each other.Really nice, family atmosphere. Very safe, with a lifeguard service running from 10am.The sea was calm, clean and not too cold in mid-July!

Jamie C — Google review

Beautiful sandy beach! Enjoyed it for the day and it weren’t too busy! Lost myself to the noose of crashing waves and sun on my face! A highlight of SB for me for sure

Thai H — Google review

As a beautiful beach. . La Concha beach... Concha is in spanish language, means is seashell as similarity of the shape. As famous beach, many people enjoy the beach, you can just seat on park bench with the beach view or taking a stroll or do sport. Alongside the fine golden sand with its lenght more than 1.300 metres makes perfect beach for barefoot walk. It is also well-equipped and offers all sorts of services such as toilet, locker & changing room, and lifeguards if summer.

Rien C — Google review

What an amazing beach! It is such a beautiful thing to have such a great beach right in the city centre. It was crowded when the weather was good but nothing too wild. Sea is clean and bright, sand is soft. They have all the facilities you might need, lockers, showers, toilette.

Mykhailo S — Google review

I had a very nice experience, even the beach was full of people if you walk further away you can find empty spots where you can be comfortably. The beach was clean barely seen any trash. Great for family’s, couples, at sunset time i saw people walking with their dogs also. ( dog friendly beach)

Olívia K — Google review

Probably one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. We were there in October, the weather was perfect - chilly enough to wear a windbreaker, and warm enough at times to have a t-shirt on. The beach is shaped like a crescent moon, and it literally feels like you're walking on a postcard. The waves were super tiny, given the position of the coastline, so walking right up to the water line with your shoes isn't a problem. If you visit this city, then you'll surely go to this beach - it's a hot spot for tourists.

Pete M — Google review

Beautiful crystal clear water much better than on the Mediterranean side. The beach is good, it's an ideal place for a swim, no wonder why thousands of people everyday here. And there are cafés, restaurants up on the street and a shady place you can sit just under the stair looking over the beach.

Pasan S — Google review

Somewhat crowded when it's sunny and warm but considering it's in the city center. Beautiful view of the harbour, Santa Clara Island. The water is clean and not as cold as expected from the Atlantic Ocean. There are changing rooms free of charge under the board walk. Plenty of bars and restaurants.

Brian T — Google review

A nice beach in one of the most beautiful cities in Spain and Europe in general. Great place to get away and have a relaxing time laying on the sand, enjoying the sun and the spectacular view. The water is a little cold though. An excellent option if you’re visiting Donostia. Highly recommended!

J. C — Google review

Beautiful place, even in a raining day.

.... — Google review

Gorgeous beach in Donostia!! The tide makes a big difference in how much of the beach is exposed. There is almost none available at low tide! There are a bunch of staircases down to the beach, lots of benches and a nice (well-lit) side walk to walk alone the cove from the street level. The beach offers great views of the hills, the water, the sailboats and the row of buildings behind. Don't forget to spend some time just taking it all in!

Rebecca L — Google review

On hot sunny days, there are lots of tourists and people enjoying the beauty of the beach. The water is a little cold and it is still quite windy, compared to the standards of Caribbean or Brazilian beaches. But it's worth enjoying this wonderful Basque beach.

The iconic Rocher de la Vierge is a dramatic rock formation with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean that is popular with tourists. The statue of the Virgin Mary that stands atop it is a reminder of the miraculous return of stricken whalers in 1864.

This area is a dramatic part of the coastline. There are some amazing photo opportunities. We visited during a period of high winds and strong tides. This made for a more exciting visit. There was lots of surfing and body boarding to add to the entertainment.

Nature & Parks

The Aquarium of Biarritz is a large and well-equipped facility with a wide variety of aquatic life from all around the world. It is home to sharks, rays, coral reef fish, and other sea creatures. The staff are dedicated to preserving local marine life and educating visitors about the importance of conservation.

My kid is almost two and he love it! Is not huge is big enough to spend 2 hours on it and is walkable for kids. They have a lot of sharks and spaces to sit and enjoy the fishes. A snack space, seals, turtles and a beautiful view. It was not super full so you can enjoy it with the stroller with not a problem.

Vero C — Google review

Interesting mixture of aquarium and maritime museum. History of fishing and whaling is important to show the impact these have had. Spread across 5 levels. Good for families with kids. A few documentaries where screened during our visit. Amazing views from the rooftop and upper levels. Restaurant and cafe were closed when we visited though. Museum shop on site with branded products for kids and gifts for adults.

I enjoyed this much more than I believe I would have! So much to see and it was not crowded so we could really take our time enjoying all the aquariums and displays. I learned so much!! Don't worry if you don't speak or read French, you can read the English translations. And bonus, there's plenty to see right outside the aquarium!

Kimberly P — Google review

Great place absolutely beautiful aquarium very clean, only issue I had was that my 2 year old could not see the seal 🦭 due to people pushing I front of us constantly we had to move 4 times and just gave up being able to see the show, so complaint is not at the aquarium more at the rude entitled attitude of the people, so we gave up and finished the aquarium in quite while the show was happening, I wish to go back with my child so I can get some more images of the seal, my daughter and my favourite animal we did get a shot of the seal under the water so that was absolutely amazing 🤩

Kids really enjoyed it we went in august it wasn’t too busy and lots to see we were only there about 2 hours but was great value at less than £50 for 4 and saw things we have never seen before and sharks and rays were big and my little boy loved it

Jayne D — Google review

Very friendly staff at reception - the woman who served us was very gentil and kind, by far the kindest person I have met in the Basque Country so far.The aquarium was clean - they had a good display of the sea life and local history within their museum.I would say, that it is very similar to the Atlantis in Dubai. Although you can’t touch any of the sea life and the animation wasn’t great…Though I do recommend it.

Master ? — Google review

The best aquarium we've visited, on a par with Monterey in California which is high praise.

David L — Google review

I have to say that I was a little disappointed considering the ticket price and what was to see . The brightest point of the visit were turtles and some nice tanks with sharks but the rest was a mediocre experience which is a shame . The aquarium is way too small to display all the beauty of ocean life and there is not much experience for the kids to get them really interested since they can only look but not interact . They get bored pretty quick . There is not much else to share here I am afraid . If you visited aquariums in different countries , you can see the difference , if not , then probably you might find this one interesting .

Anna T — Google review

The highlight of the aquarium in Biarritz is undoubtedly the last floor, where you can find a mesmerizing display of tropical fish. While the initial floors primarily focus on fishing and whale-related information, I was hoping for a more extensive collection of marine life. Nonetheless, the experience remained engaging and there was no shortage of captivating sights to explore

Very nice mid-sized aquarium right in the middle of Biarritz. Tickets are fairly priced. Good selection of displays including a large sized central fish tank and a seal enclosure. It was extremely busy when we went and the venue is completely enclosed and 98% of people were not wearing masks. Condensation all over the glass due to the amount of people inside and the lack of ventilation which means I give it 4 stars.

Got to see sea lions and many other fish and mammals. They do feed the sea lions at certain times per schedule. There is a giant tank with sharks, sea turtles and so so much more. Tons to see, very similar to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago but smaller. Place to eat and drink also. Highly recommended!

This is the best aquarium we have ever visited. The tanks are large, very clean. All creatures look amazing. Spectacular views of the sea from different levels. Castle

Specialty Museums

The National Museum and Château de Pau is a 14th-century castle museum that serves as Henry IV's birthplace. It features lavish interiors, tapestries, and artworks. Visitors can witness where the future king of France was born and baptized while admiring the 18 statues dedicated to him. Although tours are only available in French, guests can still appreciate the beautiful garden surrounding the castle for some quiet time with nature.

The garden is a good place to read a book and relaxing with the nature.

Clo — Google review

The castle exterior is fabulous. Unfortunately, we were unable to tour the inside as we did not know that the first Sunday of the month is free entry and they had reached their maximum at 4:00 pm. No doubt it would have been a great visit.

Feisty G — Google review

If you're a fan of Henry IV (and, well, who's not), then this is the castle for you! See where he was born (if you guess what animal is involved in cradling the head of the future king of France, you get 1000 bonus points). See where he was baptized. See 18 statues of him! But, seriously, the castle is very nice and a great visit!

Curt I — Google review

Amazing piece of history and culture in the middle of the city centre. Worth the guided tour for a quick look into the past and how the castle was passed along from century to century.

Moosa A — Google review

Everyone working at this castle should be fired immediately! First, the QR code at the entrance leads to a dead site. Second, I was finally able to find the correct site to reserve the tour and received the email confirmation. Third, walked through the rain this morning and then arrived to a closed door! They are too lazy to work, so they shut the castle down without notice! How aggressively hostile do you have to be toward the people who pay your wages (the visitors) to not even bother to give advance notice, or at least send an email to those who have made the stupid reservations!?!? The level of inconsiderate behavior absolutely boggles the mind!

This castle saw the birth of Henry IV of France and III of Navarre. A very beautiful place and very important for visiting in pau. It's so nice,Their guide explains very well...You can feel the short history of Henry IV and his childhoodJust in the weekend it is very important to know about their time because of the numbers of visitors maybe you have to wait a lot.

Masoud G — Google review

No tour in any other language than french. Shame. We did the tour without understanding anything just to se me the castle on the inside.

Quintie B — Google review

We needed to join the Tour guide so we didn't make it. Also, check open time before you visit!

Bo N — Google review

We enjoyed our visit to this castle-museum. So many places we ventured to we had problems finding a place to park the car. Here there were parking spaces all over - a welcome difference. We may have missed some details about the place as the tour was only in French. But we did read a lot of the signs in English and listening and watching the guide was entertaining. Even not being a French speaker I could definitely tell the difference between his French and the French I was used to hearing in Northern France. He was.... quite animated in his hand gestures. The birthplace of Henry the IV and founder of the House of Bourbon if I recall correctly. Lots of materials and furniture on exhibit. I wonder though how much survived the Revolution as I had been told in another tour once that most castles were ransacked. No matter, it is all a very nicely laid out and maintained museum.

Jeff S — Google review

An interesting place to visit, if you know something about Henry IV of France.Unfortunately there are only guided tours on French available, you can try to use their application to follow the guide during your visit, but in my opinion it is mostly useless.

George S — Google review

A beautiful museum with rich history and breathtaking tapestries. The chateau is the family home of King Henry IV of France. There is a queue of 30mins to go inside the museum. Only group of 30 pax’s each time and every 20 minutes with guided tour in French. The experience is amazing and worthwhile the waiting time.

A gem in Pau! Where Henri IV, known as Henri de Bourbon, was born. He became king in 1572 and married The Queen Margot in August 18th. The castle is very well renovated, you can chill in the gardens with a spectacular view of Pyrénées...Charming city with an old town, located at 1h30 from the 'Cirque de Gavarnie' - one of the most beautiful place on earth for outdoor lover 😀

Beautiful museum! It's very interesting to learn about the history of this chateau and the people who have lived in it and to see the furnitures and the different rooms. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with information in English. We really enjoyed it!

Beautiful historic castle of Henry IV, and Queen Margarite (Queen Margot). One can feel the Tumultuous times of France in mid 16th century, against the magnificent backdrop of Pyrenees mountains.

Bahram N — Google review

A visit to a place that includes passing between the different rooms requires about an hour and a half, if you visit the adjacent garden then a little more. Nice well preserved not particularly impressive. Be sure to plan your entry before or after a lunch break when the place is closed to new visitors for one hour from 12-1pm.

Natural feature

Nature & Parks

The Dune of Pilat is a remarkable natural feature located in La-Teste-de-Buch, Arcachon Bay, roughly 60 km from Bordeaux. Its height of 110m above sea level makes it the highest sand dune in Europe and distinguishes it from other dunes across the globe. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views by climbing to the top, which takes about 10-15 minutes at a steady pace while following recent footprints to ease ascent.

Awesome place, beautiful view, must see. And definitely on bucket list.

Luka B — Google review

It was surprising to see a mountain of sand since we expected quite flat dune with access to ocean but it was great experience to climb there anywhere. Lots of people so earlier hours is a better time to visitParking fee is minimum 6 euro for 4 hours, you can pay at the gate when leaving

Amarok S — Google review

An incredible natural phenomena! The massive dune squeezed between the sea and the forest is impressive. Be prepared for a bit of a climb, walking up and along the dune took a bit more effort than I had expected.

À voir ✨(Translated by Google)Magnificent place, too bad the sky was not clear. There were few people there because we went on a Sunday evening (after the long weekend in early May). To see ✨

Madame B — Google review

Absolutely loved it. It is so beautiful to see a huge sand dune against the backdrop of a deep blue sea. It was good to give my leg muscles a workout too. The whole site is so well organised with signs, info, toilets, cabins of cafes, snacks and gift shops. The walk to the foot of the dune is easy and the path is well made. It took me one hour to walk half of it not counting photos time. If you want to walk the whole dune from and back to the steps plan on spending more than 2 hours. There is a bus that takes you straight from Arcachon train station to the sand dune carpark. A single trip costs 3 euros but somehow a whole day multi journey ticket costs only 2 euros. (We couldn't work out why) Google maps doesn't know about this bus. Just remember that on the way back, the bus stop is to the left of the last map sign. It's easy to lose orientation and can't find the bus which may not run too frequently.

Debbie L — Google review

Impressive vistas from atop the Dune. Follow the most recent footprints to make the ascent easier (10-15 min at a steady pace). Stop to take in the view on the way up as, you climb above the tree line.

It's such a cool place to enjoy the sunset! It's my second time here, and the views are breathtaking. At the moment, you can still see the remains of last year's fires. But nature will regenrate for sure and the beautiful forest behind the dunes will be all green again. Climbing can be a bit physical, even if you take the stairs, but it's really worth it 😄

Nazareno L — Google review

Just... stunning. Really. ~15€/person for a ticket from Bordeaux to Arcachon and then to the Dune du Pilat was absolutely worth it for the trip up and down the dune as well as the surprising _lack_ of people relaxing at the beach, even though it was still quite hot when we went there! You can relax on the top/on the beach at the bottom, you can hike along the (massively long) dune and take in the view and do couple of other things (like paragliding) too.

Sights & Landmarks

The 18th century landmark Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is a large and beautiful public square with intricate architecture that was built to modernize the city. It is especially noted for its elegant marble facades and vast reflecting pool. Today, it houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This is a wonderful place to visit. This square dates back to the 18th century and is symbolic of the beauty of Bordeaux. It is outside the original fortification walls of the city and is on a wide open space, next to the river Garonne. It is encircled by some amazing, historic buildings, it is the location of the Water Mirror and the views all around are magical. Just wonderful place to enjoy with your family.

Marko V — Google review

Here at dusk, we saw loads of photographers and thinking it would evolve into some kind of fountain show, we waited, and waited as the water drained and returned.... I asked another 'watcher ' if anything else happened and he told me there was a fog to come - a bit later he said after googling it, that it had been cancelled through Covid and never reinstated so who knows 🤷‍♀️. A pretty place but not spectacular.

Teresa S — Google review

It is a central place, people gather, sit down on the stairs and enjoy the water. There is le Mirroir d'eau as well which makes all ages want to walk on water! You can walk, get a bike and go along the water promenade. At night, there is always something happening, from music to dancing etc.

Place de la Bourse is a masterpiece of urban design that graces the banks of the Garonne River in Bordeaux. This iconic square, framed by the stunning classical architecture of the 18th century, is a visual delight. The square is not just a historic landmark; it's a dynamic space that captures the essence of Bordeaux's architectural splendor and invites locals and visitors alike to savor the charm of this picturesque destination.

One of them locations that photos don't really do it justice so if you are in the area go there and see it the way it was meant to be viewed, there is a tram stop right outside just have to step off and take it all in, little tip walk up the small street on the right for some Bordeaux old town atmosphere

BEAUTIFUL EVEN UNDER CONSTRUCTIONWhen I visited Bordeaux's most famous buildings, some of it was under construction and there was no water in the fountain. That didn't ruin what was otherwise a memorable visit to the Place de la Bourse. It's a nice square to hang around in and looks even better at night.Admittedly, you can't really visit the inside (not that I'm aware?) but it's nice to visit.

Ninh L — Google review

It's just beautiful and worth visiting at different times of the day.

Debbie W — Google review

The city is wonderful, full of beautiful buildings. The square has an extremely beautiful and famous fountain. Unfortunately, taking pictures is difficult because it is always full of people. We really enjoyed the square and the whole city during our visit.

The Miroir d'eau, also known as the 'Water Mirror', is a large reflecting pool located in front of the Place de la Bourse in Paris. The pool is one of the world's largest and offers stunning reflections of nearby buildings during warm sunny days. Every half-hour, dense foggy vapours are ejected to add to the fun (and photo opportunities).

Bordeaux is a Lovely placeWe did not see it during the night but the view is Stunning. 😍Beautiful place a must visit.Come with your kids ,friends or just come alone to relax and enjoy The classical architecture of France

Gladys J — Google review

Such an amazing site! You just have to wait for the perfect timing where there is no wind and the water reflection is still to capture the mirror effect. We had to visit several times just to get the perfect shot.Too bad there is some construction covering on the left side of the building but it is still okay.Amazing architecture, amazing plaza!

Renz L — Google review

Sunny weekend by the square in front of Miroir d’eau. A lot of people jogging, sitting by the staircase, relaxing with love ones. We took the boat to enjoy the view

Jessie O — Google review

A big free attraction in Bordeaux! A place very interesting in front the elegant place (Place de la Bourse). Childs and adult walk on and play on the water. Beautiful place for shooting photo, in the morning and at the sunset..

Sergio — Google review

A place to cool off during the strangulating summers. Great for kids and adults who get hot.

Michael K — Google review

One of my favorite places of the world. Came back after 9 years and still amazed.

Angelina H — Google review

Very cool effect. Make sure to stay long enough to have the water fill the basin, then drain. The full mirror effect does not occur until almost drained.

Brian B — Google review

It's really cool. Fills with water maybe every twenty mins, then ripples for a while before reducing to become a mirror. Really good photos, free to enter, not too crowded.Ruined slightly by the number of trams in between the mirror and buildings

Simon H — Google review

Miroir d'eau is an enchanting marvel! The water mirror's reflection creates a mesmerizing and dreamlike ambiance. A must-visit attraction, perfect for relaxing strolls and capturing stunning photos. Loved it!"Personally, I think the best time to visit on sunny days and night time to see the real beauty.

Maneesh C — Google review

So I visited in April but apparently it doesn't work from October to April to protect the pipe system from having frozen water inside it. It is said to be the largest water mirror in the world! Would've loved to see it!!

Fatin A — Google review

Lovely installation! The moment when the water reflects the surroundings is the most beautiful one.If you visit this place, you'll find kids running through the waters, people dancing around the area and even singing. It's just a lovely place to spend your afternoon or evening. There's tons of places to sit and enjoy a glass of wine if you wish to~

Tanya S — Google review

The Miroir d'eau in Bordeaux is a captivating water feature between Place de la Bourse and the Garonne River. Its mirror effect, reflecting the surrounding architecture, creates a stunning visual experience. Recommended for visits at different times to enjoy the changing scenery, it offers both a refreshing escape during the day and a magical, illuminated spectacle at night, seamlessly blending modernity with tradition in the heart of Bordeaux.

Anne F — Google review

Interesting mirror made of water. The concept is nice and would be extremely cool at dawn and night. The place could become a bit overcrowded at night, with some kids and people running and walking over the thin layer of water. Nice to see during a stroll of the city of Bordeaux.

Marco M — Google review

Unusual and clever shallow pool area in front of stunning architecture. Shallow pool for 25 minutes, then drains and a mist fog appear. Lovely place to cool down, take photos, and watch the world go by. Very clever and worth a visit

Valerie D — Google review

Dont expect the perfect photo opportunity always over crowded

Jason W — Google review

There is currently some construction that makes for a sad picture but it is otherwise a picturesque place to people watch, contemplate, and rest.Trams C And D stop right outside the attraction so access is not an issue except for 5 steps.

S — Google review

It's was pretty good, but the city is not too much huge + Parking problem Also

Mira K — Google review

This place is great. It is both a tourist attraction and a local attraction. While we were here it was super hot in July so many families were visiting the Mirrior. If you want good pictures go in the morning at 10 to avoid the crowds.

Museum

Cultural center

The La Cite du Vin wine museum is a 10-floor structure shaped like a curved glass and aluminum bottle that opened in Bordeaux in June 2016. It educates visitors about wines' influence on history, geography, culture and civilization while also including tasting areas with different types of wine.

Give yourself several hours to truly immerse yourself in this fun interactive museum of the history of wine. There is so much to learn from the history of wine making to regions around the world that produce wine. It is worth the entrance fee and it’s fun for all ages. Don’t forget to go to the 8th floor where you have a panoramic view of Bordeaux and can taste the wines. This is a must experience for wine enthusiasts!!

Theresa H — Google review

Great experience! It’s expansive and takes a little getting used to the way the interactive experiences work and navigating the crowds. Going there when it’s less busy would have been better. We tasted a wine upstairs and maybe would have chosen differently if we were informed ahead that there’s only one taste per person. We wrongfully assumed we might be able to taste a few with our ticket. Overall a fun and educational time!

Jennifer M — Google review

It really is a masterpiece of a museum. When I was told the majority of stuff was on the second floor, I didn't think it could be that great. I was wrong. They pack so much into their space, but with enough room where you aren't crowded with the other people. I went midday on a Sunday and was able to get through in a little over three hours before I enjoyed my glass of wine on the eighth floor. The coolest part was the sensory exhibit where you can smell all the different aromas that might come up in your wine tastings. It was really nice. The bottle shop is also mesmerizing with all the selections. They really did this right.I used the city ticket and was able to get free access and a glass of wine, so if you're visiting the city, I highly recommend that!

Dan Y — Google review

Lots of really cool interactive exhibits. Depending on your level of wine knowledge, there is potentially a lot to learn. The Cite du Vin facility is worth the visit on its own. It was crazy busy the Sunday we visited so we didn't get to all we wanted to. I wouldn't recommend bringing the little ones. There were a lot of sad little faces.

Susan D — Google review

This experience was absolutely incredible! Wow! Where do I even begin. Initially, me and my husband were under the impression we'd be done in 2 hours, but gosh were we wrong. It took us over 4 hours of fantastic exploring to fully embody this experience. The technology was implemented with sophistication and functionality. We moved through 18 stations each with its own fun experience. Some of the experiences included an animated virtual dinner. There were stations where we were able to smell different components of wine, There were a plethora of videos and interactive exhibits that explained wine in surmounting detail. After finishing our tour, we were given a glass of wine with a splendid view. Highly recommended & very affordable.

Bethany B — Google review

Super modern, futuristic museum - but may not be for everyone. This museum is state of the art when it comes to technology, interaction and stimulating your various senses. If you are into wine, this is a great place to learn and improve on your wine knowledge. But the entry price is steep, especially when there is no temporary exhibition. The museum’s permanent exhibition is rather compact being distributed on a single floor, but the depth of audio / visual content can keep you engaged for an entire day if you so wish.An added bonus is the included wine tasting (1 glass) on the highest floor with a nice panoramic view, lots of wines to choose from and good sommelier assistance.

A V — Google review

This impressive encyclopedic museum dedicated to viticulture, wine making and the associated culinary traditions is a must see for any oenophile who finds her/himself in the city of Bordeaux. Nearly 20 impressive multimedia powered exhibits are featured in the museum's permanent exhibit. All major languages are supported. While this museum proudly showcases France's accomplishments, visitors from other wine making powerhouses will not feel under represented. This is a "go at your own pace" experience. We spent three hours including the complimentary tasting on the highest floor followed by a visit to the wine store and gift shop. There are multiple dining options available on site from a simple cafe to a full service restaurant. If those don't appeal there is an impressive food hall across the street. Very ample parking is found in the structure adjacent to the food hall. Those staying in downtown Bordeaux might consider a walk to this museum or taking one of the many trams running along the river front. A visit to this museum might be recommended for those spending more than three days who seek information complimentary to their winery tours.

Ray B — Google review

A must do if you love wine or wish to understand more about wine! Amazing experience with audio and visual engagements for wines across the globe! Arriving in the afternoon about 2pm it’s the best as there were no lines. Pro tip across the road is the fancy food vendors, pop in there for a afternoon tea with some drinks!

Ash M — Google review

This is well worth a visit when visiting the CityAll of the History and all of the education you could wish for in terms of Bordeaux and its wines. We spent more time than we expected here and got to cap off the visit with a glass in the top floor bar overlooking the whole city.

Thefreerange C — Google review

This museum is so well-designed with incredible experience for all your senses. The interactive displays, and educational elements are so well done one can get lost for hours. Unfortunately, we didn’t sign up for the class in advance, and it was sold out. Recommend to get tickets in advance. It was a bonus to have a glass of wine on the rooftop.

Tiffany K — Google review

Very informative and the exhibits are also highly interactive. You can play and “sense” the exhibits through many ways. However, since you need to wait for others to finish their turns, it’s better to avoid weekends. Otherwise, you need to wait or give up on some parts. For wine tasting, there is a wide selection of wines. They also provide non-alcoholic grape juice. Those drinking options are all premium products. But they didn’t sell wine in the souvenir shops.

??? — Google review

Pros: kid friendly, very educational, interactive, small enough to do in 1.5 hours (if rushing a bit), but still enough to keep you entertained.Cons: it’s a bit of sensory overload, a LOT to take in within a little space, you pick and choose so more than likely you will not get to it all, the flow of it is a little disjointed with the open footprint of wander where you’d like. The tasting at the top is really quite enjoyable with the views.Wish we had more time, but this definitely feels like a museum one can return to more than once.

Kevin M — Google review

What an amazing place for wine lovers, such an amazing designed building stands out across Bordeaux and is a real must on your visit. The museum is so modern and interactive with 3D images and sounds in each section, telling the story of wine from start to finish, you can even answer some interactive questions to find your wine, that suits you.The rooftop is totally stunning with amazing views.

Ian R — Google review

Great wine museum in Bordeaux with lots of information and history of wine and wine making. 22 euro per person for adult include the museum ticket and 1 glass of wine tasting on the 8th floor over looking Bordeaux city and the river. Great interactive experience with visual and audio guide for different languages. The interactive iPhone experience is friendly and easy to use.

D H — Google review

Amazing museum, learned a lot of bordeaux region ands its wines. But also about other countries and more. The exhibition is very intriguing and interactive. All your senses will be tested. Finally, with the standard ticket you get a wine tasting at the top of the building. This reminds me, the design is incredible and well thought.

Francisco F — Google review

Booked to do the wine tasting class and the main exhibition. The wine tasting class was in French with an English audio guide which felt as if I could have probably done it by myself. The main exhibition was exceptional. So immersive and interactive. An area designed for everyone and about every topic related to wine. Would highly recommend the main exhibition.

Bronte A — Google review

Unique, unusual, very interesting. Buy tickets for sensory experience ahead of time as they sell out quickly! Regular entrance can be bought on a walk in basis during non peak tourist season, it also includes complimentary glass of wine and entrance to the viewing platform. If you love wine and want to know more about it, this museum is for you. The gift shop is interesting too

Erina R — Google review

Pretty short walk from the tram station to the museum. We first got in, scanned our tickets at reception and then everything was sorted. We were able to put our backpacks in the storage area. Some seating around the bottom to just chill in before going around. There is a ton of things to do in the museum. You first can start with a aerial video of winery, then can see the regions where they highlight differences and how they make the product. Then all different parts from the type of grape, to the different finished products to more movies and videos as well as a smelling section. Overall great museum, we spent 2 hours but you can definitely spend 3-4. There is also a nice balcony where you get your tasting too.

Josh B — Google review

An amazing trip along the wide wine world for everybody, from kids to experts. Interactive and joyful. Be prepared for a long day full of interesting and well displayed information. If you’re interested in wine tasting, book the Senssoria experience. You may have a 30% discount together with the standard ticket.

Ana R — Google review

I think this is the best, most interactive, and modern museum I’ve ever been to! The audio guide included with the ticket was such a convenient way of providing information. The glass of wine included with the ticket was delicious, and you can enjoy sweeping views of the River Garonne and Bordeaux city as you sip it. Highly recommended, and I would actually consider coming back!

Cheryl L — Google review

The creativity and modern technology, and thought that went into this beautiful museum of wine is an experience for your senses. My only wish is that they had more of a selection for a free glass of wine after the tour. I was hoping for one glass of left bank Bordeaux Cabernet and it was not available. But that is a small price to pay after such a beautiful wine, museum experience.

Dan D — Google review

As a non French speaker I would recommend the Via Sensoria tour. The woman gave a perfect explanation about the wines and the sensory experience was very nice. I didn’t enjoy the regular museum as much because it was way to busy and it was put together as an audio tour. This is something I personally don’t enjoy as much as just walking around and reading. But that is just a matter of taste. The wine was amazing! Loved all of them.

Felicia B — Google review

If you have a slightest interest in wine, definitely worth visiting. Everything explained from the beginning up to the future. Also, enjoy a glass of wine after the visit without extra cost. Note: takes about 3-4h to view the full museum. Even very enjoyable for kids as swell as

Really enjoyed this interactive museum. Excellent exhibits with storytelling and consumable history. Technology was impressive including easy to use English audio guide.

Scott D — Google review

Nice views from the 9th floor, but skip the wine tasting "experience" unless you are a neophyte. I was expecting a much deeper dive into wines of the Bordeaux region, but they were not the feature.

Jim H — Google review

This is a must visit museum. Super interactive and loaded with wine information from where it is grown in the world to how it impacts movies. My favorite places exhibit was The Table - just beautiful. You can spend hours going through each exhibit and with the headset, you can go at your own pace (we spent 3 hours there). The best part is the wine tasting at the end on top of the museum with beautiful views of Bordeaux and the Garonne River. We visited on the weekday in the afternoon without an advance reservation. But advance reservations would be rect on the weekends and during the summer. Highly recommend visiting the Wind Museum.

Janet C — Google review

I paid for the permanent ticket. The exhibition was different from what I expected. It featured interactive displays, light and screen shows, and a wealth of fascinating information about wines. At the end, we took the elevator to the top and enjoyed a glass of wine.

The Wine Museum in Bordeaux is a stunning and luxurious museum that is definitely worth a visit. It is recommended to allow at least three hours to explore the entire permanent exhibition, which is located on the second floor. I strongly suggest visiting this museum if you are in Bordeaux, as it is a truly exceptional experience.

Muhammad T — Google review

Fab day out, had a great time with the tasting experience which was really informative and interesting. The museum exhibits were really well done and it was a great way to spend the day. The tour audio guide is able to be tailored to your interests and length of your visit which was really helpful to direct me to what parts of the exhibit that I would like best. The included glass of wine at the rooftop bar was also a great experience with lots of wine options and informative bar staff.

Yasmin C — Google review

We came to La Cite du Vin on a Sunday afternoon. No queue is required and we paid €22 per pax for the ticket. The ticket includes a tour to the museum and a glass of wine at top floor, whereby you can have a sip of wine while enjoying the city view. You will get an earphone and an audio guide at the entrance and the information of each station is informative and helpful.Highly recommend to visit if you are in Bordeaux.

Jessie O — Google review

It was a good experience! Even though you don’t know wine that much, you can still enjoy and learn the history of wine. They hVe dozens of interactive and creative installations. The last tasting session with the view of the last floor was also good. I highly recommend 😊

J L — Google review

Yesterday was the second time I visited this place in a few years, and I left feeling similar as I did before...First, good things: beautiful advanced exhibit design with clearly a lot of work and attention put behind them. We loved the animations of the making of wine, the historical sections, and the map explaining the Bordeaux wine regions. Even the more abstract "á table" exhibit had its charms.Middle-of-the-road things: audio guide syncing was sometimes not the bestLess appealing things: the museum is not critical at all about any negative aspects of wine. This ranges from obvious things like alcoholism to more hidden things like wine's association with colonialism (the museum makes such a big deal about wine growing everywhere but glosses over how it got there, or the land destroyed for agriculture...), or underpaid farm labor for harvesting, or even the history of the slave trade in Bordeaux. To try to keep the image of wine as simply innovative and luxurious and nothing else gives an image of a lack of self-reflection and awareness of its effect in the world. Also - one exhibit was nearly entirely a voice over talking over what were clearly AI generated images. Some of which bordered on grotesque (like a live deer head morphing into its own skull). It seemed a bit ridiculous that a place that has access to so much wine can't even hire someone to take artistic photos of the wine or the flavor components and instead has to resort to typing in prompts for images.Anyways. The view from the top is nice. But I probably won't return here again. It's worth going once and seeing how you feel about it.

Monica K — Google review

The price is a bit steep... But the best thing was that the museum was very interactive... You get to smell fragrances, and animated storyline videos... Other than that, it was mostly videos. It wasn't the type that brought you into the wine cellar and showing tools used in the olden days to grind grapes type, equipment used, the traditional way of making wine etc... So it was just more modern understanding of making wine from different countries... The view from the top while sipping the wine is also a highlight

JY T — Google review

This is a must on your visit to Bordeaux and if you can spend a whole afternoon here I would suggest doing so, we spent 2-3 hours and that was rushing. It is a very interactive museum, lots of information to retain. Unlike any museum I've ever visited. Great experience and I 100% recommend and don't forget the free glass of wine on the 8th floor.

Caila R — Google review

Good place to spend a couple of hours to learn about grapes, the process of making wine and different wine regions and fun facts. It has a great view of Bordeaux on the top but the wines they gave are not from the region and not good at all.Overall the visit is worth it.

Fantastic! It’s a must if you are in Bordeaux. We did the sensory experience with our kids and it was great! We had lunch in the restaurant 7 and the food was delicious 😋. We also did the museum and learned a lot about Wine 🍷… in total we stayed 7 hours… worth the experience and highly recommended 👍🏼

Sights & Landmarks

The Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion is a remarkable underground place of worship constructed from limestone during the 12th century. The church features a 68-meter bell tower that offers an amazing panoramic view of the city with 365 degrees visibility. It is worth noting that most of the tombs and catacombs inside are privately owned, which is somewhat unusual for such historical landmarks not to be publicly held. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited on-site.

What a fabulous place to view Saint Émilion from. At the top of the tower you can see 365° around the city. I visited in December so there weren’t many tourists around. Directly across from the tower you can sign out the key which allows entry into the tower and climb for a spectacular view. Highly recommend.

Chris R — Google review

I highly recommend this Monolithic Church with a private tour guide. You’ll be able to see and explore the history of this church. Unfortunately pictures were not allowed. But to really understand the magnitude of this structure you need to see it in person. You’ll be surprised and amazed once you step inside. The largest cavern is so enormous I couldn’t imagine how it was constructed by hand. The underground tunnels and structures are breathtaking. Recommend wearing a sweater or sweatshirt as the temperature of the caverns are 20 degrees cooler than the outside. Very humid as well so wear hiking shoes as the floor is made of clay and is wet. I destroyed my sneakers as the floor was full of puddles.

John — Google review

Impressive toombs and catacombs!Had no idea about their existence...Little bit unusual that they are mostly private owned, and not set as a public/city good, and as well.no photos are allowed🤔!?

Ivanmrav — Google review

The guided tour of the monolithic church was very good (English tours are available and tickets can be purchased from the tourist office). Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed inside. Abandonment at various points in the past means the interior is a bit baren, but still incredible that it was all carved out of the rock. There are also a few remaining carvings that can be seen decorating the interior. Worth visiting!

Scott F — Google review

No pictures are allowed inside. The guide was good. She was knowledgeable and witty. And kept the group moving .There are essentially 8 different points of interest in the 1 hour tour.If you are in Saint Emilion and are interested in the history of the village, it’s worth checking out.We used the Bordeaux City Pass to pay for our tour. It was included.

Terri M — Google review

A must for any visitor to St. Emillion is to visit this spectacular church which gives you unforgettable view of the town below

Wendy L — Google review

Highlight of St Emilion for me. Get a key from the tourist office for 2 EUR. 196 steps up, with great views from the very top. Nobody else was in there at the time.In comparison, the Bordeaux cathedral's similar bell tower is 6 EUR, but you need an allotted time slot, has more steps, was quite busy, and has more monotonous views across the city centre. But a good view of the cathedral.

Duncan C — Google review

A very interesting tour with a great guide at a sensible price. This is not only an intriguing tour but it continues to be available out of the main season so a great activity to book in case it’s raining or indeed too hot! As it happened the weather on the day was perfect, and an allowed us an out of season uncrowded walk around a still very lively and beautiful Saint Emilion and an outside drink in the square by the church. A big success for my group of 6 friends.

Clare S — Google review

196 steps to the top but the views make up for everything and more. we came here late on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves bar another group of 3 :) stunning! And a great place to kickstart our st emilion maiden trip

Joshua N — Google review

Took the 2pm tour and found it quite interesting. The story of St. Emilion is more of a legend but added some human aspects to the visit. The Chapel and cave, which are privately owned, were a precursor to the big event of entering the Monolithic Church. It is amazing how this church was built out of one giant limestone. The area is dark and cool. The guide provided lots of information throughout our hour tour. Well worth a visit!! By the way, the church is not privately owned and you cannot take photos during the tour.

Janet C — Google review

Very interesting place when done as part of a tour to understand the history and politics of the region and era.Lots of steps and uneven floors however so consider this if you have any mobility issues whatsoever. No photos or videos are allowed in the monuments, so be sure to take your time and take picture in your head to take away!

Paul S — Google review

Definitely worth a visit. Good food, wine and the most beautiful village.

Dean B — Google review

At the heart of the city, the monolithic church reminds the religious activity of the city in the Middle Ages and intrigues by its unusual design. If it shows itself in the eyes of the visitor by the position of a 68-meter-high bell tower - take you time, climb it till the top and take some pictures

Giovanni N — Google review

Magical medieval French village with exactly the right balance of authenticity and shops/restaurants. Some steep walkways but compact enough that you can see all the stunning beauty this gem has to offer. The surrounding vineyards are delightful and also close enough to walk to or take the tourist roadtrain if you're not up for the walk.

Nigel S — Google review

The church is impressive, as it is fully carved out in the rock. However, there is very left of the original decorations as it was desacralised after the French Revolution and has remained in private hands ever since. The church can only be visited in a guided tour that includes the Trinity Chapel, Saint Emilion’s grotto and the Catacombs. The tour is informative but I felt it was a bit too long (1h). Also, notice that pictures are not allowed inside of the monuments.

Daniel F — Google review

very hesitant to rate this place: we were there 30 years ago and fell in love with this gorgeous village located in an absolutely gorgeous region, but today it has been transformed into an open supermarket for millionaires and billionaires

AMAZING CHURCH INSIDE, GREAT VIEWS OUTSIDE Stunning centerpiece of the town of Saint Emilion, it's the landmark that you'll remember. The church inside is beautiful and on a sunny day, the sun streams in through the stained glass windows.Beautiful to look at on the inside, it also has some amazing medieval cloisters that you can walk around. The views and pictures that you'll get from it are amazing and there's a lookout point just outside that you will be able to see the whole town from. You can really feel what life is really like in the middle of the French countryside from here. Really amazing experience if you come here.

Ninh L — Google review

We stumbled across the tower in Saint Emilion. It’s a beautiful centerpiece of the town. We were delighted to hear we could go up to the view tower for just €2 pp.It is accessed through a small door which can be opened with a key that you will receive from the tourist office located in the middle of the town beside the structure. They hold onto a form of ID in return for the key and you will receive it back once the key is returned. The photos speak for themselves! If you’re visiting Saint Emilion, definitely check it out.

Kelly E — Google review

Beautiful church and when we were there a market was running just outside on the grounds. Plenty of people wandering and enjoying what was on offer. The cathedral itself is worth a visit, as it was quite stunning inside. The market had everything from bread and cheese to oysters and beer. The market is just down and around a hallway, so not very spacious, but a great experience.

Was a good night out, lots going on good food and service. My only criticism would be the comedian acting disabled / shy, it came over to me as making fun of people with disabilities, although I’m sure this wasn’t the intention. I’d probably suggest he tones that down a bit as to be sure not to offend. Overall a very entertaining night, very colourful and spectacular with sequins everywhere !

Zoo

Outdoor Activities

The Zoo La Palmyre is a large and diverse animal park surrounded by lush pine forests. It is home to a variety of animals such as big cats, polar bears, penguins, and apes in their natural habitats. Visitors can also explore the vibrant plant life of the zoo. The park offers interactive opportunities for visitors including feeding some of the animals. It is an interesting destination for both kids and adults alike with a fabulous layout that is clean and tidy.

What a wonderful place to visit❤️ Big zoo with a lot of different animals, birds and plants. Kids were happy to feed some of the animals ❣️Great Zoo! Very interesting. You should visit this place for sure!Interesting for kids and adults 😉

Fantastic for families. It takes about 3 hours to go through everything. Save more time (entire day) if you want to see all the shows. We had a blast!

Tremblay A — Google review

This was one of the cleanest and biggest zoos I've ever been to. The animal enclosures were huge and well kept, the animals were so healthy and content. It was brilliantly open plan, with hands on access to a lot of animals. We got to stroke the giraffes and zebras! The goats roam freely and you can feed a lot of the animals for a small fee. I went with my family of 7 and it cost 134€ which was money well spent. The sealion show was fantastic. There's so many peaco*cks roaming freely as well. The food was wonderful and well priced a galette sarrasin [buckwheat pancake] was only 9 euros and tasted wonderful. I had a caesar salad for around the same price and it was huge. Highly recommended for all age groups, a great family day out!

Spent nearly 4 hours here. Fabulous layout. Clean and tidy. Food and drinks were well priced. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic modern caring Zoo. Ok, we all know the negatives about zoos but they do really try and save animals across the globe. Amazing value for money- our four hour visit just flew by. The sea lions performance was hilarious and they appeared to be enjoying it too.

Gordon L — Google review

Truly great day out. Allow 5 hours. Plenty of food and drink stops available at very reasonable cost. Altogether excellent.

David B — Google review

I don’t specially loves zoos because I think that animals are better in nature but I agree with the fact that it helps the conservation of different species. This zoo is great. It’s big and have lots of varieties of animals. However the enclosure are too small for some animals. Specially for the big cats, the girafes, the elephants and the sea lions. It’s so small that they go in circles around their enclosure because they can’t do anything. I found this really small for this zoo because it’s beautiful.Otherwise it’s great and we spent almost 4 hours there visiting everything. But during the school holidays there is too much people and it’s horrible.I would recommend this zoo for kids but I wouldn’t place it in the top zoos in France because of some enclosure.

Astrid Y — Google review

Quite an interesting zoo, definitely more 'in contact' zoo, than the ones I have seen in other countries, the animals seemed in more proximity than other zoos, it would have even been even nicer if some of the animals had more space, here and there if feels cramped..but over all a great zoo..

Timirtcom — Google review

Great zoo, feeding the Giraffes was awesome, plenty of species to see and you can see that about as much thought has been put into the welfare of captive animals as can be,been before and was a shame the Polar Bears are no longer there(too hot for them anyway). It has been a red hot day anyway so many of the animals are not so active, and just hanging out in the shade(so was I after four hours),always worth the money and time to visit.Great day

James B — Google review

Very nice zoo.Forest area, shaded, lots of benches and quite big, so it's a nice walk. Good toilets and a place to tap drinking water. Restaurant/food were not very expensive like often in these places. The usual animals, not very big enclosures, but new ones are being made.Outside of high season: not busy at all, great 👍

Bibi U — Google review

Visited here while on holiday with the wife and 2 teenagers. This is one of the best zoos we've been to, mainly due to the range of animals and how close you can get to them. When you pay, buy a bag of popcorn or two as you can feed many of the animals by hand. Our favourites were the giraffes and the emus (beware the emus will steal the bag if you're not careful). If you follow the signs to guide your journey round the zoo, at the end there is a goat corral where you can get in with the 50+ goats and offload your remaining popcorn. This experience is almost worth the entry fee alone 🤣Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or even worth driving to 👍🏻

Mikemcm — Google review

I was and still am shocked and I regret visiting the zoo in La Palmyre… cant explain why they have 4stars. the wolves are too many in a very small enclosure. They show typical psychological illness behaviors and any social interactions with eachother. Felt really bad watching them. They have no possibilities to hide, because there are no trees, holes or stones big enough in their enclosure and the few small buildings they have are completely open and visible in all directions - you can watch them from every angle. This description unfortunatley fits to the enclosures for the Lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, bisons, donkeys.. why arent there trees, bushes, stones? And why do you close the doors to the inner enclosures so that the animals cant hide and rest if they need it? Ah, right, because EVERYTHING in this zoo is build and designed for the visitor. I can give you a guarantee for seeing every Animal that is advertised on the Homepage or Zoomap. The sealions have the worst „home“ ever. They live in a tiny Swimmingpool and get an Electric shock if they come too close to the fence. Humans too, haha. Only people who absolutely never have heard or read anything about animalprotection would like it here. Impossible to watch the animals and interprete that they are healthy or happy.

Sylvia T — Google review

A must visit. This is without a doubt the best zoo I have ever visited. The environment is relaxed and not too busy. You can really get up close to the animals. Lots of wild cats to see...up close. Also lots of other animals. I loved how there was a path to follow, so you can't miss anything.Takes a good 3-4 hours to cover the whole zoo.

Far S — Google review

Best Zoo I've ever seen.. thanks 😊

Lovely zoo, always busy. Remember this is an European zoo with different expectations than a British zoo. Interacting with the goats is an amazing moment ❤️

Krissy S — Google review

Brilliant day out, helped by the weather. The sea lions did a fantastic show with their human! Very nicely spaced out for all the animals 👍🏻

Julie C — Google review

This place is excellent I was not expecting such a busy zoo with so many animals in superb condition and very educational. This is a must visit so glad we did as a spur of the moment decision and what a good one.

Stuart F — Google review

Zoo was peaceful and lovely to walk around, the kids loved interacting with the goats spent alot of time there, UNFORTUNATELY some animals environments were not suitable ,claustrophobic, felt extremely small was not impressed.Elephants were looking drained, the cheetah had a REALLY EXTREMELY SMALL HABITAT FOR ITS SPECIES and it was pacing up and down the CAGE to get out of its miserable life. Some animals identity, aswell as ther encloser and living state were HIDDIN from the publics eye. They seals have a SHOCKINGLY smal area I was certainly not atall satisfied with any of this, seals seemed to act as if they have been beaten viciously and not kept well.Seal show was absolutely astonishing was thrilled with how they majesticly, glided across the shiny glittering water.THE GIFT SHOP PRICES WERE SKY HIGH !!!!MY HEAD BOUCED OF THE ROOF I FELT THE FORCE AS I LOOKED AT THE PRICE TAGS MY JAW FELL TO THE FLOOR AND WOULDNT COME UP. Was certainly not impressed..I feel terable for all the animals, especially the ones that get treated badly comparing to the goats.Loved every bit of the day out here in la palmyre would 100000 percent recommend for families and great weather. You would need a whole day here.Gorgeous toys in gift shop make great presants for loved onesWas not impressed by the racist monkeys, they were violently shouting the horrible N word at me and maliciously laughing in my face while touching MY THINGS

Zarra — Google review

We visited whilst staying in La Palmyre and whilst not a zoo fan, we had a great day out. When they say you need four hours, you need four hours to be able to take it all in. There is a clearly signposted route through the zoo and also a parrot and sea lion show, which is on a couple of times through the day. There is a couple of eateries but we took a picnic with us and there was plenty of benches/tables to sit at on the way round. There is also plenty of shade so even on a hot day there’s areas to get out the sun whilst walking around. There was a huge array of different animals and species to view with both their French and English names on the info boards. You can buy some popcorn at the entry (€2.50 a bag) which you can use to feel the animals with. There’s a feeding area for the giraffes which was a delight but take some, wet wipes with you if you do as there isn’t any soap in the toilets. We arrived at 11:30 and the zoo was already very busy but still plenty of parking available. Don’t be shy to park right at the entrance to the car park, next to the road as it’s only a short walk along the road to the entrance. Also be aware that on a hit sunny day, the animals are either asleep or rather static, basking in the great La Palmyre heat.Overall it was a great day out for all ages and very reasonably priced at €19 per adult.

Association Hermione La Fayette is a majestic flagship that showcases the work of a boatswain. Visitors can experience the rigging by trying out the Accro-Mats, offering a unique opportunity to reach great heights. The Royal Ropery, an impressive 374m tall building, is also worth exploring. Rochefort itself is steeped in history, with reminders of Lafayette and Napoleon at every turn.

Magnifique. A great reason to visit Rochefort. Hermione is nothing else than a piece of art, a volunteering effort, a very passionate crew. Thank you all for reviving the history thru this glorious ship and letting us the visitors to enjoy it. A must see in this part of France.

Disappointing! No boat! At least not that we could see. Lots of interesting sub-museums each with own entry fee > €10 Made the mistake of arriving and looking at the town first with cafe in lovely square only to find that the museums were all closing in half an hour for a 2 hour lunch! Decided to go the Leclerc and go back to the caravan. Was so good had lunch in the supermarket if that isn’t sad! Great sandwich beer and wine. Rochefort - tick!!

We had a wander round in the mid-afternoon, it was great to see a tall ship that had clearly been lovingly reconstructed. Unfortunately, partly due to the size of our group, the cost of guided tours were a little more than we were willing to stomach. However, just the setting it's in and the surrounding area is well worth a look.

Historical landmark

Sights & Landmarks

Phare des Baleines is an octagonal tower made of limestone that was constructed in the mid-1850s. Visitors can climb to the top for a fee of 3.5 euros, where they will enjoy breathtaking views of their surroundings. The tower also provides some historical information about the island's maritime activities. A well-stocked gift shop and a few touristy knick-knack shops are available nearby, as well as several cafes and restaurants.

Had a beautiful cycle ride from La Flotte to Phare des Baleines and was not disappointed. We climed the tower which had the most amazing stone spiral staircase. The view from the top was amazing and well worth the effort. Lots of places to eat and buy a drink. A lovely place to visit 😁

Very picturesque sightseeing and one of the most famous island landmarks. One would believe it's the end of the island - although it is the most Western point, it is technically not, as the island as got a hook shape the real end is rather the Trousse-chemise beach. You cannot park at the lighthouse itself - car parks are now a few minutes walk away, which actually makes the experience much better.

Wonderful lighthouse that invites to climb up on the top. When the ocean is at low tide, catching crabs is most fun for the kids.

Holger B — Google review

Beautiful overview over the sea and island, even on less sunny days a visit to consider. The climb to the top is a bit long but not impossible. With the right weather conditions and high tide it is possible to spot 'cross seas'. A sea state that only happens in rare places in the world, among which at the Phare des Baleines. Don't forget to check out the small souvenir shop.

Aquarium

Nature & Parks

La Rochelle Aquarium is a family-friendly aquarium that features 12,000 marine animals and 600 different species. The aquarium is located in La Rochelle, France and is well-known for its bubbling seawater tanks containing around 600 aquatic species. The aquarium is easy to navigate and has interactive displays and educational programs that are great for the whole family.

I love this place. Fun for the whole family. Interactive, educational, easy to follow, well constructed and thought out. The way marine life is displayed and explained is great.

Wafa J — Google review

I went to visit the aquarium on a Thursday morning and I could freely enjoy all the wonders because it was not crowded. It is a very calming and educational place and is perfect for the whole family, adults and children. It includes a multitude of aquariums and numerous species of fish and marine life, but also an Amazonian forest. At the exit there is also a toy shop with a wide variety of plush toys in the form of fish and other specific animals. I recommend the visit without any hesitation

Sasha — Google review

excellent aquarium, way more than i expected!! so much too see! over 60 different tanks to see, brilliant for kids and adults. We spent maybe 3 hours which was plenty. They had sharks, turtles, crabs ect. They also had a good shop at the end with lots of souvenirs and a cafe upstairs which sold lots of yummy foods and drinks. Would highly highly recommend for all ages.

Kirsty S — Google review

Very beautiful aquarium. Compared to Sealife or other aquariums this a much better one when it comes to variety and style. You can easily spend half a day with family and kids here. The collection is huge and there is a auditorium for kids. Beautifully decorated and designed. Absolutely recommended

Mehrzad K — Google review

I enjoyed the visit over here, where u can see all different types of sea creatures. Recommended.

DD R — Google review

This aquarium is underrated. It's actually not that small, with toddlers, we spent a good 1.5-2 hours in here. love the long opening hours from 10-20. Totally worth coming back to La Rochelle for. The first floor has all the local Atlantic fish (which are like fish we eat? So they were pretty ugly). But when you first come in, you come into a very cool jellyfish tunnel. Then on the upper floor, you start to see more colorful fish from Indo-pacific and that was really fun. The facilities are nice, they have some really cool sea horses that I haven't really seen elsewhere. Some tanks are low where you can look from above without a glass (a lot of confidence in people not touching the fish...) and a lot of different type of lobsters and crabs. They have a large tank with maybe 6 medium and small sharks which you can see really well. The coolest part was the sea turtle which I honestly have not seen anywhere else. Maybe this isn't world class like the Osaka Aquarium or the Okinawa one but it's pretty good and I would probably get an annual membership next time. Absolutely no crowds on an October Monday. Awesome.

Vivian S — Google review

Nice Aquarium with some local but also exotic animals and fishes. Not too big but big enough to walk through it in about 1h or 1h30min. They have many different jellyfishes which we liked and of course the sharks which cannot be missed in such an aquarium. I can recommend a visit for an afternoon when staying in La Rochelle.

Tim S — Google review

Catastrophe! It was extremely crowded and thus not possible to enjoy the visit. Definitely not worth the entrance fee. In addition it was really noisy and no COVID protections are in place.

Constantin H — Google review

A curious aquarium with great variety of water creatures. Try to avoid going from 11 to 15 as there are too many people. It is open till very late.

Sylvia P — Google review

Visited in September on a Sunday. Busy enough but not overcrowded. Good aquarium with wide variety of species and water tanks. €17.50 each, plus parking for four adults was quite a lot to pay.

Cloudfree — Google review

Really lovely little aquarium. Only took me 45 minutes to get round but could have drawn it out if I hadn't had a flight to catch. Audio guide didn't work and written info in French and English, so I didn't even need it. Very clean. It's small but great to spend a bit of time here as there is so much to see. Would recommend.I love the idea of the extended opening hours even though I went on a Saturday morning. Also love the seating areas to just watch the sharks and turtle. We'll worth a visit. The tanks with wave machines were brilliant and I loved the variety of fish.

Becki G — Google review

This is a superb aquarium and was the highlight of our visit to La Rochelle. There is very reasonable parking just outside which makes getting there very easy. All the exhibits have dual language information so perfect for French and English speakers. The aquarium is large over two floors organised by ocean and finishing with a tropical rainforest exhibit! As a family of four it cost €60, so not a cheap activity, we were there about two hours. However the kids loved it, it was very well done, educational and exciting so I’d say worth the fee. I’d recommend a visit.

Nice place with excellent aquarium glass solutions (kids tunnel, curved glass where it seems that you are in the water). That was really cool and our Kids loved it). It takes 1 hour if you go through quickly, 2 if you spend more time at the single spots. Note: Order your tickets online to use the fast lane at the entry ;-)

We visited this aquarium on the 18th November and spent almost 3 hours in there. It is probably one of the best aquarium we’ve ever visited in France.

Fantastic experience!!! Beautiful 🐠 the aquarium de la Rochelle is the best place to be! Well spotted in the hearts of the city. The staff were friendly

Eric B — Google review

I went here with my family. The aquarium was extremely packed with people even thought it was late afternoon. There was a big line of people in front of entrance. I advance you to buy tickets online. It was really hot inside, probably thanks to the crowds. You have to find one spot by the glass and just move with the crowd, if you want to see everything. Also, I was looking forward to buying the aquariums touristic coin, but they were sold out. But I have to say that the place is huge and they've got many kinds of fish, crabs, etc. It was beautiful, but the crowds were uncomfortable. Overall, it was nice.

Adéla — Google review

Big aquarium with many fishes, jellyfishes and corals. Its divided thematically into several parts (local sea, Mediterranean, Caribbean,...). Labels ate in French and English also. During weekend, there was a lot of people.

Radek D — Google review

Excellent aquarium that remains educational but fun for kids. My five year old absolutely loved it. Clean, well maintained, and enjoyable. Tip: Don't queue for tickets, just buy them online from the web site. I saw the queue of 100+ people so got my phone out, bought tickets for that exact time and walked straight in.

I have been in a few European aquariums and this one is only good. There is plenty to see but it lacks the possibility of interacting with some of the animals which for children can be a little boring. I could not find big turtles just small ones so I was disappointed. Overall interesting but expected more.

Anna T — Google review

Beautiful aquarium but i was expecting a little bigger

Ti B — Google review

One of the most beautiful aquarium in the world, explanations in English and French. From local to tropical, fish, mussels, to oysters, so much to see and learn. It's all so well maintained. Take some 2,5 hrs for the visit

Thijs W — Google review

It is a really nice and modern aquarium. Probably the best ever. Like most comments, we like the diversity of sea animals, the clear info, the settings. Especially, the animals are very well taken care of. I personally love the jellyfish area so much. The staff are very nice and welcoming. However, we understand that it is a high season so there are so many people inside. It got difficult to breathe and it was a bit too hotTherefore, for all future visitors, buy tickets in advance to avoid the queue, take a small fan and some water with you.

There were some interesting species to see at La Rochelle Aquarium! We enjoyed walking around, having a look at the different fish and taking photos. However, it was so busy and loud that we could barely hear ourselves think - it was also really difficult to get to the front of each tank to be able to have a closer look at the fish inside. There also wasn’t as much variety as we expected for the ticket price, which was a bit of a shame.I definitely do not recommend going during a school holiday or it will be overly packed but, otherwise, it was a nice enough experience.

Truly impressive aquarium with numerous tanks and one of 1 250 000 litres with sharks in it.Beautiful fishes , splendid visit .I have visited different aquariums in Europe aux as London’s and Berlin’s . This one is by far the greatest

La Rochelle Aquarium, Quai Louis Prunier, 17000 La Rochelle, France. One of the best aquariums that we have been to. It takes you around the world and shows you different fish in their environments. Our two kids were entertained for over 3 hours and saw some tanks and features which we have never seen in aquariums before. Well worth a visit if in the area.

The zoo is committed to animal conservation and environmental protection. Visitors can explore imaginative habitats housing about 50-70 animals at a reasonable admission fee.

Clean and well organized. Animals, although in enclosures, were well kept seemed healthy and well fed. Staff is amazing.

Giorgio R — Google review

Lovely little zoo. Very well looked after animals. Beautiful bird space with the possibility to feed them. A great place to visit when it is hot an sunny as most parts of the park are with big trees. Suitable for prams. Food stand with outdoor seating area and souvenir shop available.

Chrissi H — Google review

Visited in July 2020, had to wear a face mask, due to covid restrictions but a great little zoo to spend a couple of hours on a cloudy day.

Andrew F — Google review

Great little zoo involved in many international conservations programs. The path are surrounded with exuberant vegetation making you feel like you're in the middle of nature. Around 50 species available in great natural looking enclosures. Some shows available at times during the day. Reasonable in price, 16.50€ for an adult. The bar- restaurant is also reasonable in price.

David E — Google review

Excellent zoo. About 50-70 animals here in imaginative habitats. We have kids aged 8 and 4 and they loved it. Reasonable admission fee. Allow 1.5 to 2.0 hours.

Sameer P — Google review

A somewhat smaller zoo, but beautifull and fun. There is an optimal route which should take you past all enclosures. The zoo was very nice for (young) children. Take your time and you will have a nice visit. There is nectar at the entrace for €1 which you can feed to some birds, which is really worth it.

Jan Z — Google review

A nice place to spend a couple of hours at a reasonable price. €58 ( 2 adults, 2 children). You can get €1 off per person in the tourist discount booklets. The zoo itself is for animals that are at risk of extinction. A short, smooth and easy place to get around and mostly shaded due to tree/plant cover. Basic food offering at the cafe. Souvenir shop had some interesting/ rare products. We got free parking outside easily towards end of peak season. You might need to research parking options during peak season. The guide booklet is in French. An English option would help.

William O — Google review

Visited on a sunny Sunday afternoon in July, and it was not too busy, so we had lots of time to stop and watch the animals. We enjoyed being able to walk through the parakeet enclosure and the meerkats are always fun to watch!

Annette K — Google review

Really enjoyed this zoo. We spent a couple of hours there. It was a nice walk around with plenty to see. The only thing one of the kids didn't like was the open bird sanctuary. It freaked her out a little bit due to the closeness of the birds, but we went through that bit pretty quick for her. There was also no problem pushing a baby stroller around too.

La Vallée Des Singes is a unique park where visitors can observe various species of monkeys, lemurs, and apes in their natural habitats. The walk-through enclosures provide an up-close experience with the animals, especially during feeding times when they come out in front for observation. Despite some areas showing signs of wear and occasional puddles on the paths, the overall experience is worth it. The park also focuses on conservation and education efforts.

Wow what a great day .perfect family activities.well run clean and well maintained. The experience of being so close to these beautiful creatures made me smile all day would definitely recommend. Its worth the money. And the food is very reasonable prices

Les D — Google review

It was a wonderful day out for both adults and children. It's definitely worth a visit. It'll take around 4 hours to get around everything. I found the time flew very quickly.

D M — Google review

Very enjoyable and I never new there were that many species of monkeys. Wished they had kids meal combo.

Aissa H — Google review

Superb experience. Being so close to the lemurs and smaller monkeys was just wonderful, and you certainly don't feel like you are in a zoo. They really emphasize their conservation work. On site food is pricey though, as is admission, but still worth the visit.

Dawson W — Google review

An excellent day out. Plenty of space to walk around and view the monkeys of all different variations in each section. It’s very well signposted to get from place to place either in order or getting around for the feeding times. There are nice spaces to sit and eat and the feeding times are well spaced out on the map. Thanks for a good family day out. 🤙

Tim L — Google review

Great day out ,but with 1 cafe functioning the queue for food / drinks was ridiculous.

Colleen W — Google review

It was a rotten day weatherwise and on entry we were warned the monkies are not fond of the rain but we weren't disappointed. In fact we got close up to plenty that ventured out of their huts. Viewed one feeding session but preferred it when not quite so frenzied. They seem to do a lot of conservation and education work. The park looked a little tired in places and the paths were very puddly in places but was well worth the visit. My 4 year old nephew will keep these memories I hope. Thank you

Araceli G — Google review

It is a wonderful place where you can observe different species of monkeys in their natural habitat. I recommend the feeding times, when the monkeys come in front and you see them very well. There are a lot of trees and I didn't feel the summer heat. It's a bit of a labirinth but once you figure out how to use the map you receive at the entrance, it will be ok.I also liked that the peaco*cks are not afraid of people and this makes the place more amazing :)

Ioana — Google review

This is always a good day out with the kids, sometimes you see more monkey than others, depends on the weather and feeding times. There is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes and a pushchair for toddlers. There are a lot of information signs with details about the breeds, however the vast majority of them are entirely in French, which is a shame. There are several play areas with climbing frames and swings dotted throughout the park, which can allow adults and children to rest for a short while. It can get busy, you will especially notice the crowds at each of the restaurants where queues are highly likely. However the food is of a good quality and the restaurant seemed fairly clean. We have been before and we will no doubt come back again on another holiday 👍

Louise O — Google review

Fantastic day out. Would thoroughly recommend visiting. We stayed for around 5 hours and by about 5pm we nearly had the place to ourselves. Great to get up close to these amazing primates.

2nd visit (went last year too when holidaying in the area) we really loved it again! You can get really up close to the smaller animals which is great to see, and we always go in time to see the gorilla's being fed which is well worth it - just to see the alpha males face as a banana comes flying towards him ☺! We had a picnic in the parking area (sounds odd but everyone was doing it as even that area is so nice and green and lush) well worth the visit with farmyard animals and a restaurant too smile we loved it and will be back again ☺

Simon — Google review

Fantastic day out, real good feeling on the welfare of these animals. Plenty of space for them and no obvious boundaries.Recommended, take picnic, sealable bag and a steady hand for the close up photo opportunities!

This beautiful and imaginative attraction has some of the most fantastic machines you will ever see. It is perfect for all ages and is located in a forgotten corner of the city.

Amazing place to visit! The machines are incredible and they demonstrate all of them with some people getting to ride (talks are in French, obviously, fair enough). Worth staying in the gallery until they do all the demos as once you leave each section you can't go back. The ticket price is fair, just be aware it's either for the gallery OR a ride on the amazing mechanical elephant. But you can still see the elephant up close and in action. There is also a view of the workshops and you can climb down the incredible Heron tree and see its prototypes. Check the opening times if you're going at all "out of season" as it was afternoon only on the day we visited. Highly recommended.

Caitlin — Google review

It's neat and has a lot of interesting machines to see. The machines as art are really amazing. They're intricately designed and really quite beautiful. They do shows of the machines that are displayed in the gallery, then a walk up the terrace to see the workshop and a short movie, and finally a walk along a metal tree lined with plants.8.50 to see the gallery, 8.50 to ride the elephant, 8.50 to ride the carousel. The gallery ticket and elephant ticket allow you to go up to the terrace as well. With that said the machines movements and actions are all quite simple so don't expect any great feats or robotics.

This place was on my bucket list for years and I finally made it... and it didn't disappoint me.The best was the "general exhibition" where you can get an explanation on how some of this creative machines work. The only minus is that is only available in French (you can get an application, but it's really not the same). The carousel and the elephant might be more appealing for kids, but how often do you ride a mechanical elephant? :)I'll go back someday for sure!

Edgard G — Google review

Amazing place. Especially to bring kids there. Lots of fun for everyone.Tickets can be but at the door or there are some slots available on line. Place is still growing so expect more in near future.Highly recommended place to see in Nantes

Tomasz J — Google review

A very nice place for all types of people, singles, couples, families, and kids. Really enjoyed being there with my partner.- The big elephant was going around and spraying water on people and everyone was following it. You have the option of seeing more information by buying tickets and going inside the building where other similar animals are found inside, which are quite nice as well. The elephant offers rides as well so many people enjoy the show from being inside and over it, yet I think it's more enjoyable to play down to it.- The areas around have playgrounds so some people were playing basketball. Also Going to the river is nice as well.

Jamal O — Google review

Very interesting creatures in a cool setting. Very cleverly engineered animals and creatures which take you back to a Jules Verne-esque universe. The giant elephant is beautiful and graceful but watch out, it might squirt you with water! A must visit when in Nantes.

Virginia C — Google review

A beautiful location and a mix of Art and a Theme-park. Really liked the tour through the workshop with all the different and amazing machines animals. I you are planning to book one thing get this tour and skip the Elephant ride. You will see the elephant anyway and have a better view on the ground than riding it.The multi store carousel is a piece of art! This is by far the most original and beautiful theme styled carousel on the planet. Buy tickets for viewing and riding at the carousel itself.

Jan W — Google review

Very impressive piece of Machinery, all the family can enjoy those huge animatronics creatures made of wood and metal. Note that they are scheduled at specific times so make sure you check when the “things” will be wandering. Enjoy!

Philippe Q — Google review

The Gallery is somewhat underwhelming, however the elephant ride is good fun and overall it is very good value for money. The large carousel also looked like fun but probably better if you have children with you. It was also a bit more expensive. The small carousel looked great for younger children and good value.

Annette H — Google review

Great place to be and unleash the nerd in you, kid or adult :PRunning away from the elephant spraying water was ridiculously fun.Elephant ride is was already reserved and complete for the day so we couldn't ride it but enjoyed our time a lot in the gallery and carousel anyway.Reserving your ticket online might be a good idea in high touristic season.

Bur?in U — Google review

The gallery was really interesting, with many different mechanized animals. If you are lucky, you get to ride in one of the machines as it is demonstrated. We "flew" in the heron bied machine, with the audience watching us, it was a really cool experience. Children love it too! After the visit you can use the ticket to enter on the opposite site of the building and have a look at the workshop. This is also a really good spot to be in when the elephant returns from its round. You then exit through the three branch.

Maarten B — Google review

Amazingly good fun, especially for pre-teen children. I would recommend the ride on the Elephant and the Gallery of the Machines, but not the Sea Carousel as the ticket only gives 1 ride rather than 1 ride per level (there are 3 different levels and for a family of 4 or 5 it costs just over 33 euro for a 4 minutes ride)

Laura C — Google review

Amazing place! I had accidentally purchased tickets for the wrong day and the staff were so helpful! I had a walker due to surgery and they helped me to an elevator. Would highly recommend!

Brooke D — Google review

Beautiful and fun. Riding the giant mechanical elephant and carousel was really fun even though we had some serious rain the day we went. Things to know, they only do the Gallery of creatures in French but the app has English descriptions as go to each animal. Time yourself, we had some stuff too close together and so had to rush to a couple of things. Try to give yourself 1.5 hours for each experience, 1 hour for the ticket, and an extra 30 minutes to not have to rush to the next ticket. The carousel main ticket is for 1 hour time slot but only 1 ride on it, but you can easily buy more rides at the ticket office to try out the different levels. And it is not expensive. Just 9 euros for the main ticket, then 3 euros for additional rides. Overall, the entire time cost us ~30 euros each to see all the things.

Cybele B — Google review

Absolutely amazing place. Suitable for all ages. The machines are so clever and people can interact with them and sometimes sit on/in them. The huge mechanical elephant is so good, make sure you pay to go on it, but be prepared to get wet.The place is a must see if you are in Nantes, France. Will definitely be back.

Nicki A — Google review

So fun and unique! The only main attraction in this city.Mechanical animals that you can ride on.You should look at the time slots of the elephant ride before your visit. The ride is 30mins.The museum will take you an hour-ish or less to finish, before you take the elephant ride at last.

Haynes C — Google review

What a great experience. Otherwise don't speak French, all the staff made an effort to try to communicate with us. We definitely recommend.

Ed G — Google review

Amazing experience, something completely different! The guides are great and just constantly talk visitors through the various machines. Nearly all of them are in the rotation and get shown of working and moving around.Absolutely stunning and the little prototype area is cool too so you can get a glimpse of what's tk come in the future!Highly recommend!

Alexander E — Google review

Loved this interesting interactive exhibit! My son had told me about it, so we were excited to visit. A rugby exhibition was happening nearby, and there were two carousels nearby created by the same people that if I was a kid I'd die to ride. One carousel was three in one! Three stories of carousels. The exhibit was guided, and they had older children and adults ride or run them - a giant me mechanical spider, a heron that "flew", etc. But of course the piece de resistance was the elephant. For less than 10€, you could ride on this enormous elephant in a 35 minute ride ( you have to book a time for the ride). A once in a lifetime experience! Great for families OR adults. Plenty of parking a block away in several parking garages.

Dee G — Google review

One of the top things to see in Nantes. Best to pre-book a ticket. Interesting machines to see but do note that all the commentary is in French. There is an App you can download to read about the machines in English though.

This is a place to visit with or without kids! The elephant and other mechanisms were so interesting to explore, especially then the guide explains (in French). In addition to mechanism there are also a collection of interesting flowers!I would recommend to buy tickets in advance.

During winter it's not a very attractive place to visit. But that said, the magnificent elephant is a must-see even during g days there are no rides on it. I assume the rides are during summer when the crown is large. The suvernier shop has expensive goods.

The coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I'm obsessed with this place and everything in it. Worth buying a ticket in advance so you don't have to wait in line. Also fun to wait around and see all the machines move but it can get a bit crowded. The green garden area is my favorite 😍

An amazing place! This was a very special place for all the animal machines there are and how realistic their movements are. I was blown away by how big and accurate they are. There was a bit of a queue to buy the tickets so I’d definitely recommend getting them in advance. As for the prices, I took a picture and posted here too. There are different prices for individuals, students and families so take it into account. If you want to have an elephant ride, that’s extra. The elephant machine can carry 50 people! The exposition is very interactive. The staff regularly asks for volunteers to help controlling the machines. It’s perfect for all ages. Take your time to enjoy all the tour, including the construction area. There’s a video room and they show how it all started and also what their vision and future plans are. Go for a stroll on the branch too. A unique experience and view.

Absolutely loved this place! The way they have the displays and demonstration in the shop and also for guests to try was amazing. They let you be part of the crew that operates the machines to make it move, such an interactive experience! This place is worth the visit for young and adults to experience.

This place is a dream come true for anyone into machines and Transformers movies! The elephant machine is seriously mind-blowing, looks like it belongs in the wild. Just a heads up, the info is all in French, but they've got this cool app, "Les Machines De L’ile,"Link : (https://apps.apple.com/fr/app/la-galerie-des-machines/id1473290812?l=en-GB)that you can use in your language. Oh, and if you're planning a winter visit, bundle up; it gets pretty chilly. Overall, for mechanical engineers and machine geeks, this spot is a must-visit.

Amusem*nt park

Puy du Fou, a theme park in France, features epic shows from Viking era to Ancient Rome. The resort offers free WiFi and newspapers in public areas, as well as free parking. Front desk staff is multilingual and can help with luggage storage and answer any questions about the area. The park also has outdoor seating and wheelchair accessibility. Alcohol is served at the resort and credit cards are accepted. Table service is available.

The best experience I have ever had in a themed park! Almost every spectacle is really amazing and beautiful. Some are really touching!Must go place in France, I think! We all wonder how the park could be make profit with so many investment for the scenery, actors and stuffs…Five stars are not enough, I give 10 if possible!

An extraordinary experience of variety of shows outstanding from any other there parks. The use of modern technology enhances each show where classical theatrical media of communication is enriched by unusual props and animals. Each show is absolutely outstanding. If you wonder what you can be surprised by in a theatre stage, you will never guess it before you can actually see it.The cons might be quite long waiting queues for each show. You are not physically able to do all the shows in one day. Major language spoke is French. Most shows translated into English while using the park's app. You also need your own transport to get in. No local buses operating. Taxi sign outside the park- none of taxis ever arrived.Must see place for definite ;)

Aleksandra K — Google review

Great value for money. The shows were so fabulous and involved, great theatricality and the sets were amazing. The performers were acrobats, swords men and horsem*n which made the performances.French language performances (I cannot speak French) did not detract from the story or the performance.Food and drinks seemed reasonably priced for a captive audience too.Well done to everyone!

Colin M — Google review

Personally I am not a fan of amusem*nt parks. This concept is more interesting compared to Disney. However, it is way too crowded. We went to the Viking show three times, only got in the last time because we were there an hour ahead of the starting time. Plan on the app ahead of time. Buy the fast pass if you can get one. It will allow you to get into any show at last minute, which allows you to watch more shows. I bought my ticket last minute, there were no fast pass available anymore. But it might be worth it if you are visiting this place only for one day. They stamp you if you have to leave and can re enter one more time on the same day.

Sarah X — Google review

While visiting on a work trip from the United States, I came to Puy Du Fou as a part of a corporate event. I have to say, this park is fantastic in all ways. The nature is beautiful throughout, and the shows are amazing. The people and animals here are all very talented and truly provide a great experience that I'd happily recommend to everyone I know to try at some point.

Kaleb C — Google review

We visited Puy du Fou as a family. The shows are spectacular and really high quality, but we won't be going back. Although they start every show with a recorded message about "the unique bond between humans and animals" and seem to have animal welfare in high regard, we tend to have a different view. In many shows the animals perform in a setting that is hard to defend as natural, with loud music and many special effects. Even tough they are trained and used to this setting, it feels out of place.Especially the gladiator show feels like a relic from the past with a tiger and a lion in a circus-like setting. Probably a good representation of how it was 2000 years ago, but not something for this day and age. Of course that's a personal opinion, but I hope this will at least help you to make an informed decision. Please keep in mind all shows are in French. They offer real-time translations via their app, so download this beforehand. The storylines of the shows can be a bit moralistic sometimes, but the kids didn't really bother. There are plenty of choices in terms of food and drinks, ranging from fast food to fine dining. I do recommend to book lunch and/or dinner in advance if you don't go for a sandwich or crêpes.Expect to spend some time to park if you come by car. There is plenty of space, but there will be some waiting before you can enter the parking space. It took us about 30 minutes in total to go from the car park to the Covid check and into the park. Although not cheap I do recommend to buy the Pass Emotion, a kind of VIP ticket, if you only have a day. This will allow you late access at the shows and reserved seating. I'd recommend Puy du Fou to make it possible to also retrieve the Pass Emotion digitally. It's cumbersome to queue for this pass while you have booked everything online and in advance.I hope that one day they will be able to host high quality shows without the need to involve a large amount of animals.

We've been going to this park for years, each time we visit France. Its absolutely spectacular shows are amazing. However, this year it was ultra packed..as if they'd let too many people inside. Queues were immense and we were turned away from shows. Such a shame as all the other times it's been fab!

Sharon I — Google review

It is a great theme park well worth the 53 euro entrance fee. If you want to experience French culture, this is a better place than Disneyland Paris. Shows of less than 30 minutes are of high quality. The carefully well prepared show is even touching. Even if you don't know French, you won't have any problems enjoying it. Both children and parents can enjoy it together. Perfect!

The highlight of our family holiday. We spent two days in the park and it was incredible. The shows are amazing, the park clean, the staff and actors just great. I wish they would improve the web site booking system. It doesn’t work on many devices and is difficult to navigate and understand in English. I ended up having multiple emails and phone calls to confirm the booking. But it was all worth it to experience the park.(As others have noted the history is wrangled for a particular nationalist/catholic purpose. Take it with a pinch of salt!)

Vince P — Google review

Much more impressive than I was expecting. Quite the best theme park I have ever visited. There are no rides , but the shows are jaw-dropping .It’s beautifully set out with lots of tree lined paths and shady picnic areas .

Alastair ( — Google review

This time we visited the Cinéscénie only. It was worth the long drive! Magnifique! Spectacular! All the people, the animals, the horses, it is almost too much, there is so much going on. The translation through the app is very useful! Wonderful show! Out of respect only pictures from the seating area and the general view of the stage.

Tom B — Google review

Nothing like you’d ever believe, and definitely not a theme park! One of the best experiences in France, and would 100% recommend. Suitable for people willing to brave the heat and long walk, as the park is quite large.

Ollie G — Google review

Second visit here, it's an amazing and unique place. Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend going on a weekday if possible, our second visit was on a Sunday and unless you have the VIP option you will be in for much longer waits and may miss out on your chosen shows altogether.

Charmain C — Google review

Trip of a lifetime. Just wow. So very professional. Superb in every way. Highly recommend. Definitely book the fast track tickets, it is so well attended. We went midweek and it was hammered. Well done to all involved 👏

Liss S — Google review

Such an awesome experience for my first time in France! The shows were beyond belief and wish I had more time to see them all! A must go if you are even close to this area of France. Definitely worth the trip.

Terry K — Google review

What a special place! You haven’t lived until you have been here. We have been twice now. The stagecraft is exceptional, the animals are cared for so well and the food was delicious. I tell everyone about this place, it’s worth staying for three days to see it all. Also worth pre booking dinner and lunch as the restaurants get fully booked out. It’s set in a forest and is the most amazing theme park (although it has no rides!) so many highlights for us. It is truly a place like no where else. The staff were so friendly and helpful too. We can’t wait to come back!

Richard D — Google review

I spent 2 amazing days in Puy du Fou and managed to experience all 20 spectacles, it is managable withou quick pass. I highly recommend <le Mime et l'etoile> et <Mousquetaire de Richelieu>, and you must try at least one theme restaurant in the park, it was so much fun!!! Every actor was so into the role every single second, so professional, I really forgot who I was during that 2 days. Drawback: you have to speak French, everything is in French. For some bookings, you cannot do online, you have to call the service line to check first and the waiting time could be very long, and if you pay by cheque vacances, you need to send the paper cheques by La Poste, its a bit old fashioned.

Isobel Z — Google review

Fantastic park, excellent shows. A bit of waiting around from time to time, but not more than 30 mins. Be prepared to walk as with all these parks, so can be tough on smallies. Park isn't really oriented for small kids. Great to see traditional skills and craft being maintained, lovely items for sale. Friendly and helpful staff. Must see.

G F — Google review

Amazing theme park. All the shows are spectacular from stunts to special effects. The hotel "La citadelle" was a nice and pleasant hotel to stay in thanks to the helpful staff, wonderful decoration and breakfast included. The restaurant "La table des ambassadeurs" was mind-blowing. The decoration and atmosphere send you back to the 17th century. The food and the all-you-can-eat buffet were amazing (local French products). The park is worth being visited for at least 2 days if you want to see the best out of it. It also includes animal pens. The atmosphere (villages, stalls, music, decoration, characters, shows) keeps you amazed.

Guillaume — Google review

Amazing theme park! Saw all the shows and all were fantastic. You are able to learn a bit about French history, culture from the Vendée region and it’s incredibly entertaining.

Marguerite W — Google review

Seriously awesome. One of the best theme parks you'll ever go to, and certainly the best one without any "rides". All the shows and attractions are very well done, the sets are spectacular, the actors are all great, and all of the site staff are friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. Our son had the best day!

Jarrod H — Google review

It's the best place in France! All the shows are fantastic! If you love the French language, then this park is for you! You can use the park app to translate into English. This is my 3rd time relaxing and enjoying the park's atmosphere!

Liudmila P — Google review

Pictures can't tell how amazing these shows are. My mind was blown by the amazing performances several times. The show inside and outside were fantastic. We were here on a working day outside the holidays and we did 10/16 shows. I can't guarantee that you don't need to wait during the holidays. I would definitely come back (on a working day) .

Michaël G — Google review

Magical place. Loved every minute of it. The shows are breathtaking, the performers are beyond talented and the park itself is so beautiful. Went with husband and 4 kids from 9years to 3 and they all loved it! Bring a buggy!

Maria F — Google review

Absolutely loved it, there’s nothing like it. The shows are spectacular, very well done! Be prepared for lots of walking and some long queues and pack lots of water. I would recommend booking 2 days so you can see all the shows but one day is still very satisfactory.

Jessie — Google review

They say they treat their animals well but they keep social animals alone by themselves. Their lonely donkey looks very depressed. Donkeys need friends! The park should do better. Rabbits are also social animals and I noticed there's one rabbit in the "tortoise and hare" exhibit. It didn't look like a hare (which is a solitary animal) but a giant rabbit, which needs friends or they become very depressed.Other than this the park was great.

Pattareeya S — Google review

Excellent place to visit and enjoy. Best to go for two days to see all the shows. Great motorhome aire here that can hold hundreds of vans and within easy walk from the entrance

Paul A — Google review

Wonderful shows. We did it over 2 days with a baby in a pram over a rainy couple of days and it was still such a great experience ! We recommend at least 2 days because there is a lot for shows to see and places to visit. I also strongly recommend to book your restaurant while booking your ticket as once you are in the parc everything is usually full.

Gwen B — Google review

Amazing shows. It is just the perfect parc for kids and grown-up. 2 days is recommended to see everything and a fast pass on your day 1 to skip lines for biggest event. (To be ordered on line the day before as it is often sold out). Night shows are to be booked few month before your stay and are a must see.

Steven D — Google review

What can I say? Puy du fou...a crazy experience indeed, as 'fou' suggests. Left me in awe, wondering, gripped by stories, mesmerised by the artists, the remarkable storytelling, the talent and acrobatic abilities. The engineering and imagination gone into the making of this place are second to none! Everything works in clockwork perfection, each scene a second by second picture one could frame! Wizardry!!* PS Take some sort of plastic sheet, like a garbage bags, for example, to sit on. Benches could be wet or humid. Pack a couple of sandwiches and apples to eat asyou wait in the line. It's worth getting an emotion pass, even if just for a day.

Sharon D — Google review

Tip - buy tickets 2 days in advance for a 20% discount. There are discount days (park closes at 6.30) and full price days running to the night show at 10.30 to close to midnight. There is an app that guides you on the days events. The shows are spectacular and the immersive experiences likewise. There are actors strewn throughout them.Parking is very well organised and despite the numbers going in you don't have to walk far from the car to the park.As a fan of history I was blown away! Where else could you see a full on chariot race! Every experience is very high quality, production values are amazing here. The app will give you translations but to be honest it's more spectacle than storyTwo points1. They should have water fountains for refilling bottles as the prices for drinks are quite high (typical theme park prices).2. You have to queue up to 1/2 before big shows to get unless you buy the fast (emotion) pass. If you have British/Irish queuing sensibilities it may take some getting used to as in France people will think nothing of pushing around and over you, your kids or granny to advance their own position if there are gaps.

Conor P — Google review

A must go! Amazing family day. Everything is well organized and is easing how you travel between 2 shows.

Nature & Parks

Nantes' botanical garden is a haven of beauty and discovery, home to some of the most imaginative creatures and designs found anywhere in the world. The gardens are free to access and open to the public, offering an escape from the bustle of city life. Visitors can wander amongst exotic plants from around the globe or take a guided tour to learn more about their flora.

Very nice place to go for a walk. Plenty of interesting plants and trees to discover. There is a healing area where you can check the type of plants that can cure all different types of illness. Playful Art pieces are everywhere. To enjoy during sunny days!

Philippe Q — Google review

This park is now on top of my list of botanical gardens. I enjoyed every inch of it. It is full of hidden surprises around every corner and presents a very pleasant experience. There is a restaurant inside, but it was fully booked so no comments about the quality and taste of the food.

Arzu T — Google review

It was the most diverse botanical park I have ever visited, there are incredible trees, each of them was like a monument. Being next to Gare de Nantes is a great advantage. If you are waiting for the train, be sure to stop by and watch the ducks and enjoy the beauty.

Ilkhan E — Google review

This garden has a lots of things that you can see. A nice place to have some peace of time or spend your day with lived ones. The best part is the train station is just opposite to travel away from Nantes and also a tramway to travel in Nantes.

A paradise for a dip in nature and beauty. Lovely landscapes, plants and flowers. Suggested as a shortcut from the station, but mostly for some relax (there’s also a very nice café). The variety of species is so rich and interesting, it’s very well kept. Funny benches and an interesting educational aspect. It’s not a full stars because we where looking for the birds (shaped hedges), and there is only a cute, beautifully maintained alone sleeping bear. It’s a worthy walk!

Amusem*nt park

Water & Amusem*nt Parks

Futuroscope is a cutting-edge theme park featuring state-of-the-art 3D and 4D cinemas, motion simulators, and high-tech multimedia attractions. One of its newest attractions, Tornado Hunters, promises an exhilarating experience with a tornado simulation on a massive circular screen with special effects. Visitors can also embark on space training at Objective Mars or take flight in Extraordinary Travel. For younger guests, Futuropolis offers an interactive play area.

Last time, we went on a weekday (Friday out of holidays), and it was perfect! Apparently there were approx 2000 people, waiting time was never more than 5 min. Some attractions open a liter later during the day, but early enough to enjoy the whole park without problem.

Vere V — Google review

Great place for family most of attractions are for kids at least 120cm, so pay attention for heights of your little ones.We went in February unfortunately weather was a bit cold but the great advantage, we entered directly to attractions, NO waiting lines. It’s was a bit annoying that most of attractions are virtually so at some point I felt dizzy 😵‍💫Their final fountain show is just AMAZING, I had never seen something similar!

Salma — Google review

Really great park. Most of the things are good for all ages, excluding the Rollercoaster and the dance with the Robot. The restaurant was nice and cheap.Even with rain it is possible to have a nice day there.

Diego A — Google review

One of the best 4D experience my family and I have ever tried. Very futuristic and full of curiosity. You will never expectbwhats coming. Do not miss out the Tornado Chaser ride and the robot dance. It's awesome!

Fluffy F — Google review

The park had good attractions but we were disappointed. We expected more, expected a bigger park.. we were told we’d need 2 days but 1 day is enough.

Akane O — Google review

A great park that's unlike any other I've been to. The attractions are varied and very exciting plus we really enjoyed the magic show. A strange thing is that some of the restaurants close after lunch and don't reopen until 7pm, which I found odd/frustrating for a theme park. I'm still rating 5* because I think the afternoon closure is a cultural thing.

D B — Google review

We loved it... we took a fast pass for 5 attractions and it saved us a lot of time. If you want to do the Danse with robot, do the double not the tripple seat version as the double seat robot is much much more intense.

A good parc with some nice rides. The parc is not too big and can be done in one day. There are queues but with the app and showtimes you can make the most of your day!

Perrine R — Google review

Perfect Day out with our teenage son. We visited on a non peak day, so queues were very low and could almost walk on most attractions. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure to visit, and the new Aquascope attraction is taking shape, looks like it will be awesome once opened.

Jason — Google review

Fun fun fun! Didn't expect that fun when I was planning the trip and was very positively surprised.

Rafal S — Google review

The place is starting to get old and quality of some ride is very bad. But some rides on the other hand are very well made and exciting. The park focuses a lot on attractions for a younger audience. Meals are around 20 euros per menu and for all you can eat restaurants it'd going to be 30/40.

Liam C — Google review

Various 4D experiences , suitable for kids(7-year old and above) and adults. Winter time maybe no need express pass, summer time …not sure how long you have to queue for the popular one.My favorite is “l’extraordinaire voyage” and my son’s favorite is “Les machines à voyager dans le temps».

Pinky L — Google review

A very dated theme park with only a single rollercoaster ride. All the rest of the rides are video / simulator type rides. There are a few shows which were enjoyable. The queues went down quickly on most rides. It's no Alton Towers so if you're expecting an experience like that then you'll probably be disappointed. It's still a nice day out though.

Wayne C — Google review

A good amusem*nt park with a focus on video based rides. The park was clean and has a good number of picnic spots to hang out and have your own meals. You will walk a lot to see all attractions but they put beautiful vegetation and flowers in the park and the architecture of the buildings is interesting. We were there outside school vacation time and the longest wait was about 45 minutes and close to zero at the end of the day. On the downside, meal options were quite reduced. My main complaint about the park is that there is little to do for people with motion sickness.

Petra N — Google review

I went there for 2 days great experience gold pass for 99£ a day per person is a bit too much but you literally skip the hole queue of 1h everywhere there is a big arcade with everything you could imagine it was soo great. At 5mn there is zero gravity qn indoor skydiving actyvity it is amazing image of it below.

Baptiste D — Google review

First visit at futuroscope, really nice. A good part of the attractions in 3d cinema, very popular awareness of the environment, very pleasant parkA pleasant place for a short stay with enough to have a good time at an affordable price. Park

Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine is a unique zoo located in a prehistoric sedimentary rock quarry, offering natural habitats for its diverse range of animals. Situated in Main-et-Loire, France, it is known for housing rare species such as black rhinos and okapis. The park's 14 hectares feature various animals like anteaters, zebras, snow leopards, Sumatran tigers, and gibbons.

Best zoo I have ever visited. The layout, enclosures and everything are amazing

Charles H — Google review

Amazing Parc for a great price. The biggest aviary you have in Europe and you will ever seen. Also the animals have a lot of space in their enclosure and also together with other species, it's really amazing. Everything is in France or English written on maps and signposts and also the information about the animals are in 2 languages. The food prices are very high and you are not allowed to eat your own food in the Parc but across the Parc they have neatly picnic tables what my 2 young kids adore. You can get a free stamp to go in and outside the parc. The only thing I missed at the back of the Parc is a feeding time for the lions cheetah this was only available at the beginning.Definitely worth to visit and enough to see to stay a whole day.

Paco S — Google review

Spend time with the animals in as close to nature as you will find, this isn't a zoo, no depressingly small cages.

Andy H — Google review

We took family there recently whilst on holiday. The two boys, aged 6 and 7 and the adults all really enjoyed it. Set in a beautiful stone quarry, various of animals and birds, wooden carvings of animals (the boys loved climbing on these and having photos on them!). Cafe available overlooking the giraffes and zebras. Numerous little kiosks around the site to buy a drink or snack. Each zone is clearly marked, so it's easy to follow to ensure you don't miss anything. Great gift shop. Parking is opposite, across the road. A great afternoon out!

Julie M — Google review

Wonderful place for people of all ages. Plenty of space for visitors and excellent facilities. Cafes. Toilets. All animals were kept in large areas . Great day out.

Vinny G — Google review

Excellent zoo. Animals are set in their natural environment and there are two routes - through tunnels and normal path to reach them. Tunnels give you break from the heat in the summer and you appear from them into brand new enviroment. You get very close to animals and there is good choice to see for one day. We arrived just before 11am and stayed until giraffes feeding at 5.30pm ( where you get the chance to feed them yourself). Shows (around 15min) are in French only but you get to see the animals being fed right at the end of it so it is worth it. We stopped for lunch in the giraffe restaurant and it was bit confusing as you get your main elsewhere , all bit heavy for me to eat in the summer with limited salad choice ( if any) but they had vegan burger my daughter was pleased about. Good gift shop. Visit here is highly recommended!

Zuzana V — Google review

Absolutely wonderful zoological Gardens set in a remarkable array of quarry pits giving a unique possibility to get close to some amazing animals.Very knowledgeable and attentive staff gave fascinating explanations about the lifestyles and conservation projects associated with this wide range of animals. The aviaries are absolutely spectacular. So much space for the birds that you walk through and really feel that you are in their environment.Genuinely one of my favourite places to visit in the area.Certainly, my favourite zoo – anywhere!

Alister C — Google review

An excellently set out park which we found totally accessible for someone with a wheelchair which we borrowed from the site. The whole place was well marked all the way through from Stop 1 to Stop 38. The signs were in English as well as French. There are plenty of toilets dotted around the park and nice eating places too. (Sadly no vegan options). The only thing we didn’t take advantage of was the feeding times which would be well worth it with the lions and rhino etc. A lovely day and well worth a visit. 🤙

Tim L — Google review

I love France and all it's amazing architecture, but I have to say that this was a delightful day to see something totally different on our tour of France. It was fun to see the animals in such a natural type habitat. I was at first worried that the large spaces would make it so we would not be able to see the animals, but the viewing areas are so smartly set up so that you can see most corners. My family was all super pleased with putting this on our trip.

Shaunas A — Google review

Very unusual place and one of the most nature-like animal parks I've been to. Brilliantly constructed into the underlying rocks, makes it feel almost as if there are no fences. Not too many animals in the park when we were there, but it's okay. Kind of gave it a real life feeling of animal spotting.

Søren H — Google review

It is a different type of zoo. Animals seem to be kept more freely there. We really enjoyed this zoo. It's smaller than "regular" zoos, but it's a very fun one. We enjoyed there and it's highly recommended.

Maxim B — Google review

The best zoo I have ever been to. You have to see it to believe what they’ve done to create the most incredible spaces for their animals. Must see if you’re in that area, worth travelling to from far and wide for sure.

Alex — Google review

We enjoyed our day out, one of the best zoo we've been . Bring water to drink with you for it is a long walk. Well there is bar and restaurant and small shop for snacks that you can go to. Our kids love the small sport activity at the end bits and we love the caves bit and birds area. It is worth a visit. They have big parking at the front side of the zoo and souvenirs shop . Abbey

Sights & Landmarks

The Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, established in 1101, is a monastic city and Plantagenet necropolis. The abbey comprises separate churches and living quarters for nuns, monks, lepers and repentants. Currently serving as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and artists’ residencies, the site boasts impressive architecture and picturesque surroundings. Visitors can experience the diversity of its extensive history through exhibits on display at the abbey that are worth exploring for several hours.

What an interesting place. Spent three hours wandering around looking at the exhibits and discovering the diversity of its history.

Gail B — Google review

Underwhelming - on paper this should have been right up my street but right from arriving in the town (confusing signage to the carpark - there are at least 2) to using the audio self guide (lots of waffle and quite hard to navigate from one item to the next - signage in the Abbé was also not great). There was actually an English speaking tour (same price as the audio one) about to start so it would have been nice to have been told. They were also setting up for a concert or something so there were lots of barriers stacked up and people setting up lights. It was interesting but quite hard to picture how it was. More interesting than the older stuff was the time it spent as a prison.

Sonia E — Google review

Excellent visit here. The Abbey is the resting place for Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Richard the Lionheart. Recommended.

Chris S — Google review

The grounds are absolutely breathtaking! This place is definitely very remote and peaceful, which would have been perfect for nuns centuries ago to get closer to their faith. When I visited, it left a large impression on me. The stone work on the outside of the building was impressive and felt like a building that could easily fit into the Paris landscape. Overall, if you want to experience something that most people outside of France may not know about, I'd say visiting the grounds here and seeing what performances are happening here would be a great use of time. Hope that anyone else who comes here has just as good an experience as I did. Not to mention there is also some excellent restaurants close by!

Jeffrey S — Google review

Well worth a visit. Close to a very quaint french village on the banks of the Loire, very close to Saumur. The village also has a small chateau with a modern art expo at the moment.

Jeff L — Google review

Marvelous and historic Abbey close to the Loire, dating from the 12thC.Impressive architecture and the resting place of royalty. Also a museum of modern art.

Colin E — Google review

The Abbey is amazing and much larger than expected. Also the village at the Abbey is so beautiful and there is a hotel, restaurants and wine bars and artists shops.

The Abbaye has been very well restored over the years - with shiny clean walls and floors and very little inside the main church - a few tombs and an altar. We found the most interesting part to be the rooms recounting the history of when the abbey was used as s prison, after the French Revolution. There were lots of information panels and artefacts from the era - bringing the rooms to life.Parking is in the centre of town and can be busy.

Annette K — Google review

Terrible to find parking but it is signed in its own way. Came here about 8 years ago and wow have they transformed it. Brilliant for a half or even full day and considering what you get and what they have done with it the €12 entry fee is very reasonable. Lots of things to see and very good, detailed explanations in French and English.Set in a lovely visit, again worth a trip in its own right a fantastic way to spend a lovely day.

The M — Google review

Beautiful Gothic Abbey with a pretty good Modern art museum also. There was a Monet exhibition when I visited with friends; this was exceptional!! Lovely grounds, Abbey is well maintained and preserved. Some interpretation is in English, but this is inconsistent throughout. The history about the abbey being a prison etc was interesting too! Cafe in the grounds is good value, and there is good ice cream shop just outside the gates. Recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Alison B — Google review

Impressive Abbey definitely worth visiting. Both the Abbey and grounds are beautiful. We also visited while a Rembrandt collection was on display in the museum and paid €20 euros each, which was great value as we spent hours there.

Carole R — Google review

Main reason for visiting was to see the effigies of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard I (and Isabella of France). Enjoyed the large screens which had information in English as well. Information about the nuns who lived there and their daily lives. And about the Abbey as a prison. There was more there than I expected. The terrace cafe had about 4 choices if baguette. No vegan options and the vegetarian baguette option had sold out. Typical. A couple of salads available. I had the goats cheese one which was OK. Cookies, pretzels and muffins also on offer. The museum with the modern artwork was OK for a wander around.

Vickie H — Google review

Interesting Abbey by its history - especially the part where it was converted to a prison. Very well maintained, with special expositions, some coffee place outside, wine bar, hotel and upscale restaurant (1* Michelin). English translations were rare. Visit time anywhere from 1,5h to 2h at least.Parking nearby, free of charge.

A wonderful place to visit. The mix of history and modern art is very well set out. We could have stayed all day!

Kath S — Google review

A slow visit is called for.Much to see and to admire. The past abbeyes of the Abbey would have been proud of their "women's lib" activities which was risky and far ahead of their time.

Vijay B — Google review

Beautiful place, amazingly well restored. Plus the tombs of Richard the Lion-hearted and Eleanor of Aquitaine -- what more could you ask? Great guides and info, plus the village square outside for a quick meal or drink. Lovely.

Jeff S — Google review

Overall, it is a nicely preserved/renovated building, but it is empty - as you would expect from a decomissioned prison. It has some fairly interesting bits, but definitely a skippable venue. Overall, it is just a waste of time: it is big and boring, hence you can't get over it fast.

Sights & Landmarks

Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a stunning Renaissance palace located on an island in the Indre River, creating a picturesque reflection in the water. This fairy-tale castle is renowned for its romantic charm and exquisite architecture, blending French and Italian styles. Visitors can admire the oldest surviving staircase in France, royal tapestries, and artworks depicting French royals adorning the walls.

What a charming and beautiful castle! The castle is on top of an island in the Indre River, and in a small town. There is a big garden to make the castle so peaceful. With the innovative Italian decor from the 16th century, and interesting French Renaissance architecture, the castle has something that makes you not want to leave in a hurry. It’s one of the most beautiful castles in Loire Valley, and a treasure of the region.

Nice chateau and ground not huge plan to spend about 2-3 hours all in all. There is audio guide, as well as brochures in English and France, look like below 18 is free, take about 20 min walk to/from the train station and pass the main road which have few restaurants, there is also a nice place to eat in the chateau grounds.

A beautiful little castle, located on a small island in the Indre, completely surrounded by wild waters, in a beautifully landscaped English-style park. Amazing chateau built on top of an island, lots of ancient logs of oak from the original forests up in the attic section. Very impressive location and has great views from practically every angle. There are other shops/cafes nearby. Good stop when doing bike rides in this part of France.

Kelso4001 — Google review

Beautiful chateaux with friendly staff and most importantly they allowed our pooch into the grounds. Can't understand why they don't all that? Well worth the 11.50 euros with beautiful grounds to also explore.

Wendy W — Google review

Marvelous. It is a big castle, but not oversized making the visit very pleasant. The staff at the entrance was quite cheerful and nice. It was right away a good Starr. Eautiful gardens, impressive woodwork at the top of the building.

Gusto G — Google review

To be fair we didn't go inside of the chateau as it was closed by the time we showed up. But the garden and it's views were absolutely gorgeous. The town it sets in also was beautifully set on the same small river and every bit as charming as this white castle itself. May not be as big or majestic, it has a more petite coziness to it, made it more real and personal.

Beautiful castle! I’ve been doing a tour of the castles in the Loire and out of the 6 I’ve seen, I think this is a must see. Though if you are most interested in history over just seeing a cool looking castle, this one doesn’t have much to share. Would recommend Chenonceau for this instead

What a beautiful and romantic chateau atop an idyllic lake with a bubbling stream and handsome woods nearby. The architecture and grounds of the castle are beautiful, and the interior is full of richly decorated rooms with plenty of history.

Gorgeous caste and grounds. It is not a big as the others but I loved it as there were no crowds and the gardens were beautiful and the interior of the house well maintained and the entrance fee reasonable. The castle itself is stunning.

Simone H — Google review

One of the nicer looking chateaus in my opinion. With a lot of information for each room and its paintings. I felt other chateaus didn’t really have much information on the paintings on the wall so plus point for this chateau. Loved the scenery around the castle too. They also had different translations for the explanations. Steps can be quite uneven though so do be careful!

Our first Chateau in France and it did not disappoint. Smaller, but beautifully presented. Not crowded at all and the villiage a marvel. Well worth the visit.

Martie K — Google review

One of the jewels of the chateaux of the Loire. Made of striking white stone and sitting in the middle of its own lake. It has different facades so make time to walk around the lake on the nature paths and enjoy it from different angles. Sometimes you can catch the chateau reflecting in the pool. There are rooms inside with decorations from different periods that it was occupied, and they span several hundred years. There are some lovely paintings also. A word of warning there are many staircases and the round ones are very steep. There is a restaurant onsite and a gift shop. There are multiple paid parking lots but a certain T navigation put me behind the castle, while the big G put me in the nearby town. Well worth the price of admission. If not too busy plan for 1.5-2 hours.

Amazing setting with a great story behind it. There was also an impressive costume exhibit spread throughout the Chateau. Very interesting but still let you focus on the chateau itself.

Nice chateau. Very different from others in the area we visited. This one feels more livable and less like a show of power. The fine art exhibit was very nice. Off the beaten track but worth a visit. Nearby is a church where Jeanne de Arc stopped for a blessing on the way to her battle for Orleans.

My favourite chateau. This is taken out of a princess movie. Absolutely impressive and it gives that hint of magic. Not much to say about the inside as I was still shell shocked by its outside looks - but I am convinced it was beautiful and interesting. I will absolutely return, even once in this life.

Beautiful castle from the 1500s with lots of original and newer furniture, paintings and tapestries. Besides displays in French and English, each room on the tour has large cards in multiple languages explaining the items in the room. Tours with a guide, audio, or self (13 Euros). The ticket office has a gift shop and free brochures in multiple languages. The grounds and surrounding town are also very nice to walk through with lots of restaurants, shops, beautiful scenery with river views, and a campground.

This beautiful chateau is a delight to walk around (especially with your dog). The gardens are not as spectacular as other chateaus in the area but better better shaded and with more green grass for just lazing about on while admiring the castle. The chateau itself is quite small inside but very well preserved.Photographers will love the 360 degree shots you can get of this castle. There is paid parking close to the castle.Dogs are admitted to the ground but must be carried in a bag inside the castle.

Small, inhabited island with 11th-century, Romanesque abbey & the highest tides in Europe.

A must visit place. I recommend the guided tour with 11 Euro, but you need to reserve it through their official website. Otherwise, you can also reserve an audio-guided ticket or just buy it from the ticket office at the entrance . Also, it worth to stay at one of the hotels at the Saint Michel area. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The main attraction is old Abbey at the top of mountain. So, there will be a lot of stairs to walk.

What wonderful & magical place to visit. The walk there is awesome. We spotted Spoonbills & Egrets on the walk. There is a shuttle to and from there. Lap or handbag size dogs can travel on it too.Every step anyway you take leads to surprise & wonder.Restaurants there also.

Our journey to Mont Saint Michel was made even more magical by spending the night at one of the cozy inns nestled within the island's walls. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the abbey and surrounding buildings were bathed in a golden glow, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.Exploring the island at night was an experience like no other. The narrow cobblestone streets were illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, casting enchanting shadows on the ancient stone walls. With fewer tourists around, we felt like we had the island all to ourselves, free to wander and soak in the quiet beauty of the night. The abbey itself took on an ethereal quality under the moonlight, its towering spires reaching up to the sky as if reaching for the stars. Inside, the hushed whispers of history seemed to echo through the halls, adding to the sense of mystery and wonder. And then there was the tide. Watching the sea creep closer under the cover of darkness, only to recede again with the rhythm of the moon, was a sight that filled us with awe and wonder.Spending the night at Mont Saint Michel was an experience we'll never forget. It's a place where the magic of the past meets the beauty of the present, and where every moment feels like a dream come true.

Wow! Even my 20 year old boys were impressed with this place. You see it for miles when approaching and are immediately struck by its wonder. Amazing how they built this beautiful abbey so long ago. Great views, great history... Try a crepe and an ice cream whole there as well!

Jinny G — Google review

Beautiful site. Great scenery. Very touristic but well organized. However, this must be an extremely crowded and a better-to-avoid place during summer holidays. Late autumn, winter, early spring are fine I guess.

Kristian K — Google review

When you see the place from distance it is breath taking. Also when you enter, you can not stop thinking who had the idea to built it and it seems impossible to understand how they did it 1000 years ago. It is something you will need to see once in your life. Also amazing views from above.

Impressive structure. It’s alway busy so plan your trip early or late in the day. Don’t need a guide just visit the structure yourself. Tickets for cathedral cost €11,- You can buy them on the scene. Age under 26 is free of charge. Overlooking the ocean is awesome. Really worth the visit.

Jurgen H — Google review

We spent 3 hours at the Mont and made it to the top... but it is a lot of stairs up and down when you are there and even more in the Abbey. We could have spent longer, but we were on a schedule. It is one of those places that you have to see to understand and get the picture of how people had to live here.My suggestion is to be there at opening. We were there at opening and had a great parking spot and caught the second shuttle, so the wait was very short. As we were leaving, 3 hours later, there were so many people coming up that it was difficult to get down the "ramp" through the shops and to the exit gate. This would be an extremely difficult place to visit with kids who need strollers and aren't used to climbing stairs. Parents need to be prepared to carry their kids, if they get tired. We had our tickets when we got there and it made it really easy. We were moved in the abbey entrance into the building, and people without tickets had to go wait in another area to purchase their tickets. The bathrooms at the visitor center near the shuttle loading entrance are free and nice. The people T the visitor center can also give you your map and Abbey ticket too, which will make it much faster when you get to the Mont.

Kirsten B — Google review

Incredible even in the rain! Never experienced anything like the labyrinth of churches built amongst churches. The Abbey is well worth a visit.Spectacular views from the ramparts over the sea and coast.Make.sure you wander off the main streets to make the most of it- lots of little quiet areas to get away from the vast crouds.

Hannah R — Google review

This is a must see! Tickets should be bought in advance to enter into the Abbey part of the fortress.Even if you didn’t get tickets to go inside the Abbey, you can walk the entire perimeter of the wall and around the grounds. There are lots of shops and restaurants on the grounds as well. Crepes, coffee, and lots of souvenirs. This is well worth the trek out to see it!

Stunning views on top of the church. 🤩 BUY TICKET IN ADVANCE IN ORDER TO SKIP LONG LINE. Amazing shops and restaurants inside. There are hotels too but are pricey.A great pilgrimage place to those who want to pray, reflect or just want some time off. There is a chapel at the lower level where the shops are and Monte St. Michael Abby on the top has a lot of areas for praying as well. Light a candle inside the chapel and make a wish. After all, GOD IS ALMIGHTY AND HE CAN DO MIRACLES FOR YOUR LIFE NO MATTER HOW IMPOSSIBLE IT CAN BE. Remember GOD'S EXPERTISE IS THE IMPOSSIBLE. 🙏🙏🙏Don't forget to stop and pray at every cross or at the image of the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. Pray with your heart's content and keep the faith. PRAYERS MOVE MOUNTAINS 🙏🙏🙏 God bless your journey at St. Monte Michael. Mass is also held everyday at the church on top.

Amazing views with such a varied history... A lot to take in, quite accessible but certainly less crowded early in the morning.Very nice restaurants on the island, with a variety of venues. Tiny, open, various menus and all surrounded by HISTORY.Many things to consider here. For an abbey to be turned into a prison - makes one wonder at the choices we humans make!

Laine M — Google review

Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Get the free shuttle bus to and from the car park - saves a 40 min walk each way and definitely do a tour of the Abbey. It’s the best thing to do here and it’s a great sight!

Just go and visit this magnificent Mount with the Abbey in the middle surrounded by little shops and restaurants! The Mont Saint Michel was the inspiration for Disney's Rapunzel (birth) Castle. Parking at about €23 a day, but free shuttle buses going back and forth. Prices are reasonable, and it costs about €13 for adults to enter the Abbey itself.

SS H — Google review

Mont Saint-Michel was beautiful! A tourist attraction indeed, but worth driving for! All stories of history are well-found in this extraordinary town on the edge of Normandy. Again, a lot of people travel to this site to see the spectacular view and old streets. There are lovely souvenir shops and (pricy) restaurants. Worth visiting once in your life! The bus ride across the bridge is free, we took it towards it. However the hike back to the parking spot was also incredible!

Stijn Z — Google review

Traveled by road to this unique World Heritage Site offering a glimpse into the history with stunning views of ocean surrounding it. Perhaps it was winter so the crowds were thin but nonetheless a mesmerizing view. Had a chance to witness live choir. Memorable.

Stairs. Steps. Stunning Beauty. This is one of those locations that’s a must see, bucket, list item. We had the fortune of being able to stay on the island overnight, which is recommended if you can make it. So much to see and say about the area. Yes, the main drag is a gauntlet of various shop, selling candies and toys and knickknacks. No, the restaurants are not the greatest of cuisine, but the food is passable. The star, however, is the Abbey and surrounding buildings.Hard to put towards how beautiful this is. The architecture and the various rooms you see tour or each unique and are breathtaking. By my account it took 650 steps from the bottom of the town to get to the very highest point of the Abbey. There are a couple of roots depending on whether you like stairs or rather take slanted ramps. Either way find your way up there. If you can buy tickets in advance, I would recommend it. Would also recommend being there first thing in the morning nine 930, or later in the evening, to avoid the true crush of crowds, this site not to be missed and something unique on the entire planet

Roman — Google review

Amazing experience to visit Mont Saint-Michel. Walking thru the town and the abbey is well worth the visit. There are several walking routes you can take up to the abbey, but I would recommend the main road up from the tourism office for a more direct less stairs approach. For those who want a better scenic view, I would recommend taking the stairs up to the castle wall and walking along the outer wall path.

Hao C — Google review

Beautiful! 💙🩵⛪We parked the car at nearest town, then rode our bikes for +/- 3km 'til the last bicycle parking (free, no charge), then from there take the free shuttle bus. Mesmerizing view of Mont St Michel along the way 🥰

Very very impressive place it blew my mind. It is quite touristy and a little pricey (the car park is very very expensive for campers, and i didnt feel like the museums were worth the money, they're very outdated ) but I couldnt help but keep thinking how they built this place as its just too beautiful. Love that they allow dogs and the children enjoyed it

Bekki H — Google review

This place is magical. No words can describe its beauty. It's definitely worth staying overnight at the hotel to experience the street without anyone on the street. I understand now why it was so hard for the soldiers to attack this fortress. The mud are slippery and sink you in when walking. It's definitely fun to waddle through it but be careful not to get stuck in too deep.

Thi V — Google review

Mont Saint Michel is truly a sight to behold, with its charming islet and captivating abbey perched atop. I highly recommend purchasing a ticket to explore the abbey, as it offers an enriching experience with panoramic views. However, it's important to note that prices within Mont Saint Michel can be a bit higher than expected. While the experience is definitely worth it, visitors should budget accordingly for meals and souvenirs. Moreover, it's wise to look for accommodations outside Mont Saint Michel's walls. Reviews suggest that hotels within the area may not provide satisfactory service, so staying in nearby towns might offer a better experience.Overall, Mont Saint Michel is a must-see destination for its beauty and historical significance. Just keep in mind the pricing and accommodation considerations to make the most of your visit.

The abbey was lovely and spacious, I went with a group in April, I loved the abbey but the town in itself was busy, packed and very touristy, our guide said it's worse in summer, it's a nice place, beautiful architecture but the town isn't my cup of tea, though it is expected as it's a tourist attraction. Be prepared for a long day of walking up and down stairs 😂, it's views are very rewarding though.

Esther F — Google review

This is a fantastic place to visit. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. Bring your camera. You must park pretty far out, you can walk 40 minutes or take a shuttle bus. Once at the castle there are shops and you can buy tickets up in the castle.

Robert F — Google review

It is a lovely and magical place as from fairytale. Especially if you love medieval period! It is for all ages. We walked around and booked the guided tour and enjoyed. I would recommend coming during the working daysThere are restaurants inside the monastery but they are pricy and full so it is good to bring your own food and make a piknik on a grass with a great view to the castle.

Jovana V — Google review

Very crowded, expect to be standing in queues for most of the time you are here.Should be a ban on pushchairs for visitors, or should be strongly discouraged. There is alot of stairs to climb so do not recommend it for kids.Other than that I enjoyed myself, it was very interesting, hopefully would come back when the weather is better!Line for buying a ticket onsite moved faster than the pre-paid line so I would recommend getting a ticket when you get there!

Benjamin M — Google review

Excellent park and ride system but a little bit expensive (17euro ).Being a major attraction you'll find the usual tat and over prices.Entry to the monetary (13 euro ) but well worth it.Be prepared for huge crowds of people.
